Effects of asymmetrical exercise demands on the symmetry of skin temperature in archers

Abstract Objective: To analyse skin temperature asymmetries in response to asymmetrical exercise demand in archers. Approach: The skin temperature of the trunk and upper limbs was measured in 30 archers with an infrared camera at three different moments: before (Pre), immediately after (Post), and 10 min after (Post10) a simulated competition (18 warm-up shots and 72 qualifying round shots). The membrane anchor of microsomal epoxide hydrolase from human, rat, and rabbit displays an unexpected membrane topology.

The microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH) and cytochrome P450s catalyze the sequential formation of carcinogenic metabolites. According to one algorithm for predicting the membrane topology of proteins, the human, the rabbit, and the rat mEH should adopt a type II topology. The type II topology is also predicted by a recently established neuronal network which is trained to recognize signal peptides with very high accuracy. In contrast to these predictions we find, based on N-glycosylation analysis in a cell-free and in a cellular system, that the membrane anchor of human, rat, and rabbit mEH displays a type I topology. Specific binding of VegT mRNA localization signal to membranes in Xenopus oocytes

Abstract We have studied the interaction of a VegT mRNA localization signal sequence with the membranes of the mitochondrial cloud in Xenopus oocytes, and the binding of the VegT mRNA signal sequence to the lipid raft regions of the vesicles bounded by ordered and disordered phospholipid bilayers. RNA preference for the membranes of the mitochondrial cloud was confirmed using microscopy of a fluorescence resonance energy transfer from RNA molecules to membranes. Quantification of synchronization during atrial fibrillation by Shannon entropy: Validation in patients and computer model of atrial arrhythmias

Atrial fibrillation (AF), a cardiac arrhythmia classically described as completely desynchronized, is now known to show a certain amount of synchronized electrical activity. In the present work a new method for quantifying the level of synchronization of the electrical activity recorded in pairs of atrial sites during atrial fibrillation is presented. A synchronization index (Sy) was defined by quantifying the degree of complexity of the distribution of the time delays between sites by Shannon entropy estimation. Recently it has been discovered that the formation of the siliceous spicules of Demospongiae proceeds enzymatically (via silicatein) and occurs matrix guided (on galectin strings). In addition, it could be demonstrated that silicatein, if immobilized onto inorganic surfaces, provides the template for the synthesis of biosilica. MS-CASPT2 analysis of the UV thermochromism of octamethyltrisilane

We interpret the reversal of the direction of the thermochromic shift of the first absorption band of peralkylated oligosilanes as the silicon chain is extended, based on multistate complete active space second-order perturbation theory (MS-CASPT2) calculations for octamethyltrisilane, Si3Me8. The observed shift is attributed to the effect of b1 distortions from ground state equilibrium geometry on vertical excited state energies and intensities. Control over the adsorption of proteins and over the adsorption and spatial orientation of mammalian cells onto surfaces has been achieved by modification of glass and other silicon oxide substrates with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). The functionalization of the substrates was achieved either by a polymer-analogous reaction of aminosilanes with reactive N-(isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAM)-copolymers and by copolymerization of NIPAM with surface-bound methacrylsilane. Porous silicon based photoluminescence immunosensor for rapid and highly-sensitive detection of Ochratoxin A.

A rapid and low cost photoluminescence (PL) immunosensor for the determination of low concentrations of Ochratoxin A (OTA) has been developed. This immunosensor was based on porous silicon (PSi) and modified by antibodies against OTA (anti-OTA). PSi layer was fabricated by metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) procedure. Main structural parameters (pore size, layer thickness, morphology and nanograins size) and composition of PSi were investigated by means of X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy.
