AbstractPurpose. Motor coordination is proposed to be a relatively stable age-related construct, unlikely to be influenced by aligned experiential factors such as intensive sport-specific training. The purpose of the study is to investigate if there are differences in motor coordination abilities among young artistic gymnasts, swimmers, and ice hockey players.Methods. The participants of the study were 508 female and 258 male adolescents (age, M = 12.80, SD = 1.10) comprising artistic gymnasts (n = 463), swimmers (n = 70), and ice hockey players (n = 233). The significance of the triceps surae muscle action as a determinant in the biomechanical genesis of ski fall injuries

In an epidemiologic study of 700 ski fall injuries YOUNG /1/ established a classification of the different fall modes involved. In more than 60 % of all falls that lead to an injury he found a forward bending motion of the body which is frequently coupled with a twisting of the body around the lower extremity. This clearly shows the importance of the forward motion component of the skier’s body in ski fall traumatology. The type of injury and its location depend on the action of the ski binding system. Plyometric muscular action tests in judo- and non-judo athletes

The majority of explosive actions during the Judo fight occur when the athlete is trying to overcome his/her adversary via rapid execution(s) of (isolated or chained) technical manoeuvres. The aim of this study was to compare the results of two plyometric muscular action tests (i.e., Squat Jump – SJ, and Countermovement Jump – CMJ) between judoand non-judoathletes. The function of neuromuscular system in maximal stretch-shortening cycle exercises: Comparison between power- and endurance-trained athletes.

Abstract Differences in neuromuscular function between power athletes ( n = 10) and endurance athletes ( n = 10) were investigated in six different experimental conditions. In drop jumps and in stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) exercises on the sledge (sledge jumps), the subjects performed about 10 maximal jumps from the optimum dropping height (O) as well as from the dropping height of optimum −40 cm (O − 40) and optimum +40 cm (O + 40). Cerebral ischemia and severe head injury among others are associated with a limited availability of oxygen, leading to cell catabolism as well as anaerobic glycolysis. Resulting metabolites, such as arachidonic- and lactic acid, can be expected to leak into perifocal brain areas, contributing there to cytotoxic swelling and damage of neurons and glia. Plantar pressure distribution during running with a self-customized foot orthosis in a home microwave.

The individualization of a custom-made foot orthosis could provide improvements in plantar loading distribution regarding a prefabricated one. However, not all runners can afford it because of its high cost. A new type of low-cost prefabricated foot orthoses with self-customization could be the solution.
