Aim: Species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used to make predictions on how species distributions may change as a response to climatic change. To assess the reliability of those predictions, they need to be critically validated with respect to what they are used for. This paper investigated the intestinal distribution and fecundity of 2 species ofDiplostomumparasites,D. spathaceumandD. pseudospathaceum, in 2 species of definitive hosts, herring gull (Larus argentatus) and common gull (L. canus), using both empirical field data and experimental infections. At the level of individual hosts, the parasite species occupied different parts within the intestine, but the fecundity of the worms, measured as the number of eggs in the uterus, did not differ between the parasite species except in wild common gulls. Vision is a vital attribute to foraging, navigation, mate selection and social signalling in animals, which often have a very different colour perception in comparison to humans. Non-wild-type cryptococcosis in a child with multivisceral organ transplant who owned bird pets.

Cryptococcosis is the third most common invasive fungal infection in solid-organ transplant recipients, although it is rarely reported in transplanted children. It typically appears as a late-onset infection with central nervous system or pulmonary involvement. We present a case of cryptococcosis caused by a non-wild strain in a 10-year-old child who owned two pet birds, and review the existent literature.

Redescription of Chiropturopoda nidiphila Wiśniewski & Hirschmann (Acari: Uropodina) from a woodpecker’s tree holes, including all development stages…

All development stages of Chiropturopoda nidiphila Wiśniewski & Hirschmann, 1983 are described, which has previously been known only from the deutonymph stage. The species is closely associated with tree holes excavated by woodpeckers. Chiropturopoda nidiphila was redescribed and the genus diagnosis was completed. The description of the species morphology is based largely on scanning (SEM) electronograms. Diagnoses differentiating all of the known species of the genus Chiropturopoda are provided, including their developmental stages.

Analizie zostały poddane polskie i niemieckie nazwy odapelatywne obiektów zamieszkanych i niezamieszkanych, a także oronimy i hydronimy. Nazwy gatunków ptaków ukazane są jako uniwersalne podstawy nazw geograficznych w obu językach. W części analitycznej opisane są poszczególne nazwy, ich lokalizacja, pierwsze zapisy, a także znaczenia realne i symboliczne ich apelatywnych podstaw nazwotwórczych.
