EXPERIMENTAL PROPAGATION FAILURE IN A NONLINEAR ELECTRICAL LATTICE

2004

We consider an experimental setup, modeling the FitzHugh–Nagumo equation without recovery term and composed of a nonlinear electrical network made up of discrete bistable cells, resistively coupled. In the first place, we study experimentally the propagation of topological fronts in the continuum limit where the analytical solution can be obtained. We show that experimental results match the theoretical predictions. The discrete case is then investigated theoretically and in the lattice, emphasizing the pinning of traveling waves.

Mechanical Bistable Structures for Microrobotics and Mesorobotics from Microfabrication to Additive Manufacturing

2018

International audience; The use of mechanical bistable structures in the design of microrobots and mesorobots has many advantages especially for flexible robotic structures. However, depending on the fabrication technology used, the adequacy of theoretical and experimental mechanical behaviors can vary widely. In this paper, we present the manufacturing results of bistable structures made with two extensively used contemporary technologies: MEMS and FDM additive manufacturing. Key issues of these fabrication technologies are discussed in the context of microrobotics and mesorobotics applications.

A pH-triggered bistable copper(II) metallacycle as a reversible emulsion switch for biphasic processes.

2013

A unique bistable copper-metallacyclic complex is used as an elegant molecular switch for the reversible formation of emulsions by simple pH variation. This switch may have several exciting applications in biphasic processes such as catalysis and separation science technologies.

Recent Advances of Spin Crossover Research

2004

Thermal spin transition (spin crossover), one of the most fascinating dynamic electronic structure phenomena occurring in coordination compounds of third row transition metal ions, mostly of iron(II), iron(III) and cobalt(II) with critical ligand field strengths competing with the spin pairing energy, has attracted increasing attention by many research groups. One of the reasons is the promising potential for practical applications. In this chapter we intend to cover essential recent work, primarily accomplished within the European research network on "Thermal and Optical Switching of Molecular Spin States (TOSS)". New spin crossover compounds and their thermal spin transition behaviour, al…

Nonlinear higher-order polariton topological insulator

2020

We address the resonant response and bistability of the exciton-polariton corner states in a higher-order nonlinear topological insulator realized with kagome arrangement of microcavity pillars. Such states are resonantly excited and exist due to the balance between pump and losses, on the one hand, and between nonlinearity and dispersion in inhomogeneous potential landscape, on the other hand, for pump energy around eigen-energies of corresponding linear localized modes. Localization of the nonlinear corner states in a higher-order topological insulator can be efficiently controlled by tuning pump energy. We link the mechanism of corner state formation with symmetry of the truncated kagome…

<title>Reaction-diffusion electrical network for image processing</title>

2006

We consider an experimental setup, modelling the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation without recovery term and composed of a 1D nonlinear electrical network made up of discrete bistable cells, resistively coupled. In the first place, we study the propagation of topological fronts in the continuum limit, then in more discrete case. We propose to apply these results to the domain of signal processing. We show that erosion and dilation of a binary signal, can be obtained. Finally, we extend the study to 2D lattices and show that it can be of great interest in image processing techniques.© (2006) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Instability and bistability during the growth of a corrosion scale on metals and alloys

1986

This paper summarizes the main results for the interpretation of the self organized corrosion scales observed in oxidation or sulfidation of some metals or alloys. It consists also of a reconsideration of the classical theoretical concepts used in Reactivity of Solids. It proposes new theoretical tools that have been fruitfully utilized in other topics : non linear and coupled processes, stability analysis and bifurcation theory. Some examples are developed, where the corrosion kinetics at high temperature are interpreted in term of chemical bistable system able to oscillate spontaneously and mechanochemical couplings are also taken into account. In according with experimental results, all …
