La radiation des échinodermes au Paléozoïque inférieur, l'exemple des blastozoaires.

10 pages; Le sous-phylum Blastozoa est un des groupes d'échinodermes les plus diversifiés (dix classes) au début du Paléozoïque. Après révision critique de leur squelette, leurs morphologies en apparence très variées sont en fait homogènes. Leur diversité montre deux pics (Drumien, Sandbien) liés par un événement de fortes apparitions génériques au Cambrien supérieur-Ordovicien inférieur. Les blastozoaires montrent un fort endémisme au Cambrien et un important provincialisme à l'Ordovicien inférieur et moyen. Ils deviennent cosmopolites à l'Ordovicien supérieur, par plusieurs événements migratoires. Ils sont restreints à la Laurentia et à Baltica au Silurien inférieur.

Unravelling extrinsic and intrinsic factors of the early Palaeozoic diversification of blastozoan echinoderms

19 pages; International audience; The Subphylum Blastozoa represents more than one third of the early Palaeozoic echinoderm fauna. A comprehensive database including all records of blastozoans was built to provide quantitative analyses of palaeogeography and diversity patterns and processes, for the 10 classes currently included in this subphylum during the early Palaeozoic. The global pattern of taxonomic diversity shows two peaks during the Cambrian Series 3 and the Late Ordovician intervals. Reports in different members of the section of San José de Gracia (Sonora State, northwestern Mexico) extend the palaeogeographical range of the genus to the South Laurentia, and the stratigraphic range of Gogia granulosa to the whole first half of middle Middle Cambrian. 16 pages; The genus Lingulocystis Thoral, 1935 is a preponderant component of the echinoderm fauna of the Lower Ordovician of Montagne noire (France), as suggested by its abundant remains. Its morphology is characterized by a flattened theca, composed of a frame enclosing numerous small polygonal central plates. The new specimens have been determined partly as Lingulocystis elongata Thoral, 1935 and partly as Lingulocystis aff. deani Ubaghs, 1994. This study is the first report of Lingulocystis in the Foulon Formation. New occurrence of the Ordovician eocrinoid Cardiocystites: Palaeogeographical and palaeoecological implications

10 pages; International audience; Flattened eocrinoids are very rare in the fossil record, notably because of their fragility. Recent investigations in the Anti−Atlas (Morocco) have provided one of the oldest known specimens of Cardiocystites from the Upper Ordovician (early–middle Sandbian). This discovery increases the number of eocrinoid genera known in Morocco. This new material is the fifth published specimen of the genus Cardiocystites. It is well preserved, thus allowing morphological details, such as the location of the anal pyramid and the plane of thecal flattening, to be observed.
