Nocturnal blood pressure and progression to end-stage renal disease or death in nondiabetic chronic kidney disease stages 3 and 4

Objective The objective was to assess the role of office and ambulatory blood pressure (BP) on the development of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in nondiabetic chronic renal failure. Design and method Seventy-nine patients [mean age 57 (standard deviation 11) years, 47 men, BMI 28 (4), office BP 151 (25)/92 (14) mmHg, estimated glomerular filtration rate 28 (14) ml/min per 1.73 m3] were included. Correlation between hypertrophy and risk of hypertension in congenital solitary functioning kidney

Purpose: Solitary functioning kidney (SFK) may be associated to hypertrophy, hypertension and chronic kidney disease. We evaluated blood pressure (BP) of children with congenital SFK comparing agenesis to multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) and correlated BP profiles with renal dimensions of affected and contralateral kidney. Relationship between birth weight and awake blood pressure in children and adolescents in absence of intrauterine growth retardation.

This study was designed to examine the relationship between birth weight (BW) and ambulatory blood pressure in children and adolescents, born at term in absence of intrauterine growth retardation. Twenty-four hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) was performed on 332 children (150 boys), aged from 6 to 16 years. Subjects were stratified by BW tertiles and age. The objective in the present study was to evaluate if obesity beginning in the first two decades of life influences the relationship between ambulatory blood pressure and urinary sodium excretion.Eighty-five obese and 88 non-obese children aged 3-19 years were included in the study. PPG embedded system for blood pressure monitoring

In this work, we have designed and implemented a microcontroller-based embedded system for blood pressure monitoring through a PhotoPlethysmoGraphic (PPG) technique. In our system, it is possible to perform PPG measurements via reflectance mode. Hardware novelty of our system consists in the adoption of Silicon PhotoMultiplier detectors. The signal received from the photodetector is used to calculate the instantaneous heart rate and therefore the heart rate variability. In the Ongoing Telmisartan Alone and in Combination with Ramipril Global Endpoint Trial, telmisartan (T; 80 mg daily) and ramipril (R; 10 mg daily) caused similar clinic blood pressure (BP) reductions, with a similar incidence of cardiovascular and renal events. The R+T combination lowered clinic BP somewhat more with no further cardiovascular or renal protection. The aim of this substudy was to see whether these clinic BP changes reflected the changes of 24-hour BP, a BP with a better prognostic value.
