Background. With the improving cure rate in childhood malignancies, increasing interest has been focused on long-term survivors. To evaluate late sequelae of childhood leukemia, the muscle strength of 43 young female survivors was investigated and compared with that of 69 healthy age-matched women. The patients had been off therapy for 1 to 19 years. Methods. The anthropometric characteristics measured were height and weight, and body mass index was calculated. The aim of this study was to examine the cross-country invariance of five well-established measures of body weight and shape concern-related attitudes and behaviors (i.e., drive for leanness, drive for muscularity, strategies to increase muscle, strategies to lose weight, and weight and shape concerns). Out of 95 patients with radiolucent gallstones who enrolled in a clinical study with chenodeoxycholic acid (CDC) for gallstone dissolution 75 patients with cholecystolithiasis completed 12 months of treatment. As a side effect 31% of patients reported intermittent diarrhea which did not cause cessation of therapy or missing of work. The incidence of biliary colic was markedly decreased during treatment in comparison to the rate in the year before. Since body image can vary in diverse contexts, the aim of the present experiment was to investigate whether it is affected by recent food intake. CONTEXT: We undertook this study to estimate the prevalence of the various androgen excess disorders using the new criteria suggested for the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). SETTING: The study was performed at two endocrine departments at the University of Palermo (Palermo, Italy).
