Il contributo analizza la biografia e la professione di un protagonista dell'architettura siciliana del primo Seicento. L'attività di Bonaventura Certo, architetto francescano e a servizio presso le sedi isolane dell'ordine (in particolare a Trapani)è indagata attraverso progetti che rivelano un interessante contrubuto per gli sviluppi della storia dell'architettura religiosa siciliana nell'età della Controriforma tra rispetto della tradizione e aggiornamento dedotto dalle opere e dalla stampa del tempo.

Il nome di Bonaventura Caruso, sacerdote e orafo messinese, compare per la prima volta intorno agli anni '70 del XVIII secolo. L'autore, attraverso lo studio delle fonti e grazie a un'accurata analisi stilistica, propone l'identificazione e l'attribuzione a Caruso di un gruppo di opere di argenteria sacra prodotta a Messina oggi nei tesori delle Chiese Madri di Geraci Siculo e Mistretta, tutte caratterizzate dalla presenza di forme e motivi decorativi rococò, ma già tendenti al neoclassicismo. In spring 2011 some small engravings of immaginative portals appeared on the antiquarian market in Palermo, interesting traces of a bigger collection probably put together by an unknown Sicilian architect. Assembled with other portals coming from the book "Porte d'archittettura rustica...", by Orazio Perucci, these engravings make part for sure of another book -till now apparently unknown to the scholars - dedicaded to the same specific theme of "Porta et fenestra" (portals and windows), as can be drawn from a fragment of the title page. Eleven separated engravings, which represent portals, and a partially cut out frontispiece are the first evidence of the exis139 tence of a hanbook edited by the architect Bonaventura Presti and probably published in Naples between 1651 and 1664. The images reveal the adoption of formulas referring to the activity of Cosimo Fanzago, and some clues prove their circulation as operational models between the XVII century and early XVIII century in Palermo.
