Collagen overglycosylation: a biochemical feature that may contribute to bone quality.

Skeletal ability to resist mechanical stress is determined by bone amount and quality, which relies on macro- and micro-architecture, turnover, bone matrix, and mineralisation; the role of collagen has not been clearly elucidated. Numerous post-translational steps are involved in collagen type I biosynthesis, including residue hydroxylation and glycosylation catalysed by enzymes that work until the protein folds forming the triple helix; therefore, folding rate regulates these processes. Overglycosylated hydroxylysines are poor substrates for epsilon-amino group deamination which initiates cross-link formation. Recent studies on the morphogenesis of the fins ofDanio rerio(zebrafish) during development and regeneration suggest that a number of inductive signals involved in the process are similar to some of those that affect bone and cartilage differentiation in mammals and humans. Langer-Giedion syndrome with interstitial 8q-deletion.

We describe a 12-year-old girl with Langer-Giedion syndrome (tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome type II) who also had vertebral malformations. Chromosome analysis identified an interstitial del(8q): 46,XX,del(8)(pter leads to q22::q234 leads to qter) as a cause of this syndrome.

A reappraisal of the purported gastric pellet with Pterosaurian bones from the Upper Triassic of Italy

A small accumulation of bones from the Norian (Upper Triassic) of the Seazza Brook Valley (Carnic Prealps, Northern Italy) was originally (1989) identified as a gastric pellet made of pterosaur skeletal elements. The specimen has been reported in literature as one of the very few cases of gastric ejecta containing pterosaur bones since then. However, the detailed analysis of the bones preserved in the pellet, their study by X-ray microCT, and the comparison with those of basal pterosaurs do not support a referral to the Pterosauria. The herbivorous sauropod dinosaurs of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods were the largest terrestrial animals ever, surpassing the largest herbivorous mammals by an order of magnitude in body mass. Several evolutionary lineages among Sauropoda produced giants with body masses in excess of 50 metric tonnes by conservative estimates. Radiological Outcomes of Bone-Level and Tissue-Level Dental Implants: Systematic Review

Purpose: to assess any differences on marginal bone loss between bone-level or tissue-level dental implants through a review of literature until September 2019. Materials and methods: MEDLINE, Embase and other database were searched by two independent authors. The search was limited to articles in English. Results: The search provided 1028 records and, after removing the duplicates through titles and abstracts screening, 45 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility. Whether these characteristics are established during gestation or shortly after birth is not known.
