The article scrutinises the main narratives adopted by the E.U., the U.S. and China in the fight for digital sovereignty. It analyses the ongoing dialogue between legal systems that is taking place in the digital sphere to ponder on the role of comparative law in this dialogue. With legal systems called to apply a territorial law to a global phenomenon, comparative law proves to be a fundamental tool in the dispute for digital sovereignty, widely employed across legal formants, with a critical role in creating a distinctive identity for the legal systems.
Cesare Pavese’s Il campo di granturco: geographical trails

This article proposes a critical reading of the short story, Il campo di granturco [The Cornfield], by Cesare Pavese. Methodologically and epistemologically, it tries to highlight the existing consonances between literature and geography with regards to three key concepts – the border, the landscape, and the territory – that form an indissoluble connection between human beings and the world. In geography, border, landscape, and territory are regarded as key cognitive mediators within the interaction between the Self and the world. In the first half of the twentieth century, the north-western lowlands of imperial Ethiopia were the typical interstitial frontier of the Ethiopian–Sudanese borderlands. Starting in the early 1960s, a cash crop revolution paved the way to the transformation of the Mazega into a settlement frontier and the emergence of a dispute with Sudan for demarcation of the international border. Framing Migrant Memories: Lampedusa's Fragmented Archives

The small island of Lampedusa, a key destination of the Central Mediterranean Route connecting Africa to Italy, offers a special observatory on the contemporary trans-Mediterranean odyssey of migrants, although often transformed into a “border spectacle.” Upon landing, migrants are stripped of their belongings, as these are impounded by the authorities. Such an act of dispossession is intended to deprive them of their histories, family ties and cultural identity. Photographer Mario Badagliacca has portrayed a selection of these lost and retrieved items in his work Fragments (2013). Live free or die motionless : Walking the migrant path from Italy to France

This essay and the photographs examine visual traces of irregular mobility in the border landscape between Italy and France. The ruined buildings and objects witness decades of movement of undocumented people on this old migrant path across the mountains. By taking the theoretical concept of multidirectional memory (Rothberg 2009) the essay argues that the Path of Hope can be thought of as a memory site through which the issues of migration in contemporary Europe can be seen in a more sustainable light. This article develops and extends the idea of cosmopolitan solidarity to temporality through a case study of archival activism and participatory film-making. It examines mediated witnessing within the Italian online audiovisual archive Archivio delle memorie migranti, which documents and archives the experiences of contemporary migrants in Italy. The moral basis of Archivio delle memorie migranti is cosmopolitan solidarity, which is usually understood as a practice that crosses spatial and communal boundaries. Microprojects are an important part of Interreg programmes. This article presents areas of cooperation and categories of actors who have been active in submitting and implementing these microprojects in the Czech-Polish borderland. It identifies 11 thematic areas of microprojects, which mainly support people-to-people projects in the field of culture. The most active microproject actors are local govern-ments, while the participation of non-public sector actors has generally rather stagnated since 2004.
