Ag11(SG)7 : A New Cluster Identified by Mass Spectrometry and Optical Spectroscopy

2014

We report a one-step and high yield synthesis of a red-luminescent silver cluster with the molecular formula, Ag11(SG)7 (SG: glutathionate) via reduction of silver ions by sodium borohydride in the presence of the tripeptide, glutathione (GSH). The as-prepared cluster shows prominent absorption features at 485 and 625 nm in its UV-vis absorption spectrum. Aging of the as-prepared cluster solution led to the disappearance of the 625 nm peak, followed by broadening of the 485 nm peak to give three maxima at ?487, 437, and 393 nm in its absorption spectrum. These peaks remain unchanged even after polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), where a single band was observed confirming high purity…

2'-O-methyl-5-formylcytidine (f5Cm), a new modified nucleotide at the 'wobble' of two cytoplasmic tRNAs Leu (NAA) from bovine liver.

1996

The nucleotide analysis of a cytoplasmic tRNA(Leu) isolated from bovine liver revealed the presence of an unknown modified nucleotide N. The corresponding N nucleoside was isolated by different enzymatic and chromatographic protocols from a partially purified preparation of this tRNA(Leu). Its chemical characterization was determined from its chromatographic properties, UV-absorption spectroscopy and mass spectrometric measurements, as well as from those of the borohydride reduced N nucleoside and its etheno-trimethylsilyl derivative. The structure of N was established as 2'-O-methyl-5-formylcytidine (f5CM), and its reduced derivative as 2'-O-methyl-5-hydroxy-methylcytidine (om5Cm). By sequ…

Effect of sodium borohydride and hydrogen peroxide pretreatments on soda pulping of sugar maple (Acer saccharum)

2021

For recovering value-added wood-based organic material prior to delignification, sodium borohydride (NaBH4) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) pretreatments under alkaline conditions were performed before soda pulping of sugar maple (Acer saccharum) chips with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). In this investigation, it was determined whether the pulp yield could be increased by partly stabilizing the hemicelluloses by these pretreatments, and simultaneously obtains lower pulp kappa numbers. The results indicated that when aiming to the same kappa numbers (i.e., kappa numbers 14.3-20.5), roughly 3% higher pulp yield could be achieved if the chips were pretreated with alkaline 0.5% NaBH4 solutions, compared…

Experimental investigation on lithium borohydride hydrolysis

2010

Abstract Lithium borohydride, one of the highest energy density chemical energy carriers, is considered as an attractive potential hydrogen storage material due to its high gravimetric hydrogen density (19.6%). Belonging to borohydride compounds, it presents a real issue to overcome aims fixed by the U.S. Department of Energy in the field of energy, and so crystallizes currently attention and effort to use this material for large scale civil and military applications. However, due to its important hygroscopicity, lithium borohydride is a hazardous material which requires specific handling conditions for industrial aspects. In order to understand much more the reaction mechanism involved bet…

New sensing devices part 1: indole-containing polyamines supported in nanosized boehmite particles

2005

The synthesis, characterisation and optical properties of new sensing systems made by attaching different polyamine chains functionalised with an indole fluorophore to a boehmite matrix is reported for the first time. Firstly, a family of tri(alkoxy)alkylpolyaminosilanes have been reacted with indole-3-carboxaldehyde to form the corresponding Schiff bases which were reduced with sodium borohydride. The anchoring to the surface of the boehmite nanoparticles was carried out by reacting the precursors with the hydroxyl groups available in the surface of the support. The characterisation of the materials by elemental microanalysis, X-ray powder diffraction, CP-MAS 29Si NMR and electron microsco…

Organometallic early lanthanide clusters: syntheses and X-ray structures of new monocyclopentadienyl complexes.

2004

The reaction of Ln(BH(4))(3)(THF)(3) or LnCl(3)(THF)(3) with 1 equiv of KCp*' ligand (Cp' = C(5)Me(4)n-Pr) afforded the new monocyclopentadienyl complexes Cp*'LnX(2)(THF)(n) (X = BH(4), Ln = Sm, n = 1, 1a, Ln = Nd, n = 2, 1b; X = Cl, Ln = Sm, n = 1, 3a) and [Cp*'LnX(2)](n') (X = BH(4), n' = 6, Ln = Sm, 2a, Ln = Nd, 2b; X = Cl, Ln = Nd, 4b). All these compounds were characterized by elemental analysis and (1)H NMR. Crystals of mixed borohydrido/chloro-bridged [Cp*'(6)Ln(6)(BH(4))(12-x))Cl(x)(THF)(n')] (x = 10, n' = 4, Ln = Sm, 2a', Ln = Nd, 2b'; x = 5, n = 2, Ln = Sm, 2a' ') were also isolated. Compounds 2a, 2b, 2a', 2b', and 2a'' were structurally characterized; they all exhibit a hexameric…

Density functional theory based screening of ternary alkali-transition metal borohydrides: a computational material design project.

2009

We present a computational screening study of ternary metal borohydrides for reversible hydrogen storage based on density functional theory. We investigate the stability and decomposition of alloys containing 1 alkali metal atom, Li, Na, or K M1; and 1 alkali, alkaline earth or 3d / 4d transition metal atom M2 plus two to five BH4 groups, i.e., M1M2BH42‐5, using a number of model structures with trigonal, tetrahedral, octahedral, and free coordination of the metal borohydride complexes. Of the over 700 investigated structures, about 20 were predicted to form potentially stable alloys with promising decomposition energies. The M1Al/ Mn/ FeBH44, Li/ NaZnBH43, and Na/ KNi/ CoBH43 alloys are …

Stereospecific Polymerization of Isoprene with Nd(BH4)3(THF)3/MgBu2 as Catalyst

2004

The neodymium trisborohydride Nd(BH 4 ) 3 - (THF) 3 (THF = tetrahydrofuran) has been used as a catalyst precursor for isoprene polymerization for the first time. Associated to an excess of Al(Et) 3 , the resulting catalyst is moderately active, giving a mixture of cis- and trans- polymer. Addition of a stoichiometric amount of MgBu 2 to Nd(BH 4 ) 3 (THF) 3 affords a stereospecific catalyst providing trans-1,4-polyisoprene, more than 96% regular. That dual component Nd/Mg system also shows a better efficiency and good control of the molecular weights. A molecular structure is tentatively attributed to a bimetallic active species, based on 1 H NMR experiments.

Effect of reducing agents on the acidification capacity and the proton motive force of Lactococcus lactis ssp. cremoris resting cells.

2002

International audience; Reducing agents are potential inhibitors of the microbial growth. We have shown recently that dithiothreitol (DTT), NaBH(4) and H(2) can modify the proton motive force of resting cells of Escherichia coli by increasing the membrane protons permeability [Eur. J. Biochem. 262 (1999) 595]. In the present work, the effect of reducing agents on the resting cells of Lactococcus lactis ssp. cremoris, a species widely employed in dairy processes was investigated. DTT did not affect the acidification nor the DeltapH, in contrast to the effect previously reported on E. coli. The DeltaPsi was slightly increased (30 mV) at low pH (pH 4) in the presence of 31 mM DTT or 2.6 mM NaB…

Ball-milling and AlB2 addition effects on the hydrogen sorption properties of the CaH2 + MgB2 system

2011

Abstract Among the borohydrides proposed for solid state hydrogen storage, Ca(BH 4 ) 2 is particularly interesting because of its favourable thermodynamics and relatively cheap price. Composite systems, where other species are present in addition to the borohydride, show some advantages in hydrogen sorption properties with respect to the borohydrides alone, despite a reduction of the theoretical storage capacity. We have investigated the milling time influence on the sorption properties of the CaH 2  + MgB 2 system from which Ca(BH 4 ) 2 and MgH 2 can be synthesized by hydrogen absorption process. Manometric and calorimetric measurements showed better kinetics for long time milled samples. …
