A phytosociological analysis of the Brachypodium rupestre (Host) Roem. & Schult. communities of Sicily.
2018
A phytosociological study on the Brachypodium rupestre grasslands in Sicily is presented. These grasslands form discontinuous secondary stands dynamically linked to the deciduous oak woods, which are widespread within the upper-colline, submontane and lower montane belts (800-1400 m) of the Tyrrhenian side of the northern Sicily and in the Sicani mountains. In the study area B. rupestre grasslands were mainly found in colluvial plains or drainage lines where relatively deep and mesic soils occur. In this paper 42 phytosociological relevés were performed and statistically analysed. Two new associations were described and classified in the alliance Polygalo mediterraneae-Bromion erecti (Brome…

Cultivable microorganisms associated with honeys of different geographical and botanical origin
2014
In this study, the composition of the cultivable microbial populations of 38 nectar honey and honeydew honey samples of different botanical and geographical origin were assessed. After growth in specific media, various colonies with different appearance were isolated and purified before phenotypic (morphological, physiological and biochemical traits) and genotypic [randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), repetitive DNA elements-PCR (rep-PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)] differentiation. The identification was carried out by 16S rRNA gene sequencing for bacteria and, in addition to RFLP, by sequencing the D1/D2 region of the 26S rRNA gene for yeasts and the 5.8S-IT…

Indagini fitosociologiche sulla vegetazione a Bupleurum fruticosum (Umbelliferae) del versante tirrenico della Sicilia orientale
2009
Phytosociological researches on the Bupleurum fruticosum vegetation on the tyrrhenian side of Eastern Sicily. The results of a phytosociological study carried out on some Bupleurum fruticosum shrubby formations, recorded in the Tyrrhenian side of eastern Sicily, are presented. This plant com- munity, characterized by a high occurrence of sclerophylls, is proposed as a new association named Spartio juncei-Bupleuretum fruticosi (holotypus: ril. n° 13 in Tab. 1), included in the suball. Pruno- Rubenion (Pruno-Rubion, Prunetalia, Rhamno-Prunetea).
Florintesa, a program agreement for the italian botanical gardens and the national floristic heritage.
2014
OUR CLAIM: "The Botanical Gardens are, par excellence, responsible for carrying out the important mission of the conservation of our flora, through specific actions on live plants and their seeds, along with education and outreach aimed at spreading a new environmental culture, more careful and respectful of the essential needs of life, more sensible to the aesthetic and scientific value of the national flora" To overcome the isolation and strengthen their role in our society, the University Botanical Gardens have become promoters of national and European consortiums: examples are the working group "Botanical and Historic Gardens" of the Italian Botanical Society (1) and, on the global leve…
