In the framework of the transdisciplinary educational innovative project “Sciences and Arts” at the University of Valencia, we present here the design and outcome of an activity around the phenomenon of scientific travelers. It consisted in a scientific-literary tour through the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia, that 100 students from the subjects “Natural Sciences for teachers” and “Literary training for teachers” attended. A new list and prioritization of wild plants of socioeconomic interest in Italy: toward a conservation strategy

Wild harvested plants (WHP) and crop wild relatives (CWR), part of the segment of natural diversity that is collectively known as ‘Plant Genetic Resources’, have great socioeconomic importance for humans because they are used either directly or in crop breeding. In order to lay down a solid base for constructing conservation strategies for Italy, an updated annotated list of CWR and WHP was produced for the country including information on known uses. Taxa included in the list were then prioritized using a pragmatic approach based on their value, native status, and need of protection or monitoring.

Diagnostico del estado actual de consevación de Puya raimondii en Arequipa – Perù.

The diagnosis of the current state of conservation of Puya raimondii Hams in Arequipa, Perú. – The authors show the results of a survey carried out in Perù, Arequipe region, and Bolivia, on the geographical distribution of Puya raimondii Harms. After describing the systematic and nomenclature of the Andinian species, the study of the biological, ecological and conservation status of this endemic plant species has been performed, as well. They have also described the density population and the risk of genetic erosion caused of both natural and anthropic pressure. Finally they evaluated the use of this plant species as animal feeding, popular medicine traditional local use.

Historical Ecology, Archaeology and Biocultural Landscapes: Cross-Disciplinary Approaches to the Long Anthropocene

From the local to the global scale, human impact is the real protagonist of the Anthro- pocene. It is impossible to understand ecosystems and the landscape without considering the long-term processes of anthropic activities. The driving forces in landscape change are strongly related to historical dynamics. Changes in political regimes, social structures, eco- nomic modes of production, cultural and religious influences—which all traditionally fall within the domain of the humanities—are phenomena entangled with many ecological and environmental factors. Thus, understanding landscapes in the Anthropocene is impossible without a cross-disciplinary approach.
