L'Orto Botanico di Catania. 2a Ed.
2016

2011
The first record of Ileodictyon gracile from Italy is reported, accompanied by notes on the taxonomy, ecology, and distribution of this rare gasteromycete.
Phytoplankton colonization patterns and the abundance of suitable aquatic ecosystems: the importance of nestedness among freshwaters. 17th Workshop o…
2014
Species-poor and species-rich phytoplankton assemblages in two Sicilian water bodies (Lake Pergusa and Lake Biviere di Gela) were compared to test the hypothesis that the number of colonization events and the successful establishment of a new species in an aquatic ecosystem may depend on the number and nestedness of water bodies in a given area. The two ecosystems are both natural, shallow lakes and they are protected sites hosting a rich avifauna. Both the lakes had quite high conductivity values (> 2,500 μS cm-1) and both were re-filled with fresh waters (< 400 μS cm-1) after they had disappeared because of the over-exploitation of their main inflows to fulfill agriculture water-demand. H…

Pisolithus albus (Sclerodermataceae), a new record for Tunisia
2015
Pisolithus albus was recently collected for the first time in Tunisia. This ectomycorrhizal fungus is found associated with Eucalyptus occidentalis, a new symbiotic relationship, in the urban area of Tunis. The new record of this fungus on this tree permit to expand our knowledge on the ecology and distribution of P. albus in Tunisia. The finding is also important since this fungal symbiont has great potential in forestation efforts. Data on the morphology, molecular identification, distribution and, ecology for P. albus in Tunisia are presented for the first time.
Biosystematic researches on Allium cupani group (Amaryllidaceae) in the Mediterranean area.
2015
Allium cupani Raf. is a species complex of the subgenus Allium L., which is taxonomically quite critical mainly for its marked karyological and morphological variability. In the present study, karyo-taxonomic characterization of some peculiar populations of this group from Italian, N African, Balcan and Aegean territories has been performed, using both living plants collected in the field and herbarium material. As a result, ten new species have been recognized and described within the A. cupani complex. They are A. panormitanum from N Sicily, A. samniticum from C Italy, A. mauritanicum from N Morocco and NW Algeria, A. balcanicum from mountains of Balkan Peninsula, A. tzanoudakisanum from …
