The Botanical Garden lies within the city of Palermo, a few meters away from one of the largest unused Manufacturing Gas Plant in Sicily. The total concentrations of PAHs (23 compounds) in the soil of Botanical Garden ranged from 947 to 18,072 microg/kg. The wide range of PAH concentrations (RSD=84%) found in the soil samples indicates heterogeneous levels of contamination in the area and this can be explained by considering the different tree distributions which prevents the homogeneous deposition of pollutants on the soil. Przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest parafialny ogród botaniczny znajdujący się w jednej z miejscowości w województwie śląskim - Bujakowie (dzielnicy Mikołowa). Ogród o powierzchni 1 ha powstał w latach 70. XX wieku. Pomysłodawcą jego założenia był proboszcz miejscowego kościoła pw. św. Mikołaja. Bezpośrednio z funkcjonowaniem ogrodu związane jest ustanowienie w 2000 roku w Bujakowie sanktuarium Matki Bożej Bujakowskiej - patronki środowiska naturalnego. Dla mieszkańców miejscowości i okolic ogród pełni ważne funkcje (rekreacyjną, edukacyjną, ludyczną, kulturotwórczą), jest również rozpoznawalnym miejscem w turystyce przyrodniczej na obszarze województwa śląskiego.

Nowadays, a significant part of cities is tackling the problems with post-mining areas. This manuscript is an original research which shows possibilities of their reclamation. The aim of the article is to present the proposal of developing the closed limestone quarry and creating a botanical garden. The proposed spatial solutions allow for creating a new, tourist and recreation space, maintaining the natural heritage. The work also assumed carrying out a dendrological inventory, in order to determine the existing dendrofl ora.
