La questione del confine italo-francese sul Monte Bianco
2020
Even though the common interest of France and Italy in relation to their Alpine border should be enhancing co-operation on cross-border issues (such as improving climate change adaptation as well as preventing and managing risks) a dispute on the delimitation of the border in the area around Monte Bianco has arisen in last years. As any other international dispute on territorial borders, it presents three different plans of analysis: the interpretation of boundary treaties and their official maps; the legal weight of “other” maps; the relationship between the boundary treaty and subsequent practice of the Parties (above all the relevance of effectivités). This article shortly discusses thes…
À la recherche des maillages communaux d'antan. Présentation du projet ANR COMMUNES et de quelques résultats préliminaires
2020
The COMMUNES project aims: 1) to produce the first H-GIS in the world providing annualised boundary data for all French municipalities from the Revolution to the present day. Each spatial unit will include population data and metrics of access to networks of transport; 2) to develop a multimodal model of transport to allow the dynamic analysis of the relationship between economic and demographic changes and accessibility from the end of the 18th century to the present day; 3) to represent and analyse on a very fine scale some key demographic and socio-economic phenomena. Our method for reconstructing historic administrative boundaries combines the study of historical and cartographic source…
Perception of Segment Boundaries in Musicians and Non-Musicians
2014
In the act of music listening, many people break down musical pieces into chunks such as verses and choruses. Recent work on music segmentation has shown that highly agreed segment boundaries are also considered strong and are described by using multiple cues. However, these studies could not pinpoint the effects of data collection methods and of musicianship on boundary perception. Our study investigated the differences between segmentation tasks performed by musicians in real-time and non real-time listening contexts. Further, we assessed the effect of musical training on the perception of boundaries in real-time listening. We collected perceived boundaries by 18 musicians and 18 non-musi…
Interventions for improving psychological detachment from work: A meta-analysis.
2021
Psychological detachment from work during off-job time is crucial to sustaining employee health and well-being. However, this can be difficult to achieve, particularly when job stress is high and recovery is most needed. Boosting detachment from work is therefore of interest to many employees and organizations, and over the last decade numerous interventions have been developed and evaluated. The aim of this meta-analysis was to review and statistically synthesize the state of research on interventions designed to improve detachment both at work and outside of it. After a systematic search (covering the period 1998-2020) of the published and unpublished literature, 30 studies with 34 interv…
« Le problème de la délimitation des concepts psychologiques chez Wittgenstein »
2010
International audience; la philosophie peut être décrite comme un travail de cartographie conceptuelle. Mais cela implique-t-il que les frontières entre les concepts en question sont parfaitement définies ? Non, répond Wittgenstein. On examine la portée de cette thèse sur un cas à la fois particulier et essentiel : celui des concepts dit ‘psychologiques’.
Dynamic Sustainability Assessment Tool: Case Study of Green Biorefineries in Danish Agriculture
2020
In this work, a novel, dynamic sustainability assessment tool is presented and validated in a case study. This tool combines two methods&mdash
The influence of the anatase nanoparticles boundaries on the titania activity performance
2014
Metal oxides structures, formed by ordered self-assembling of crystalline nanoparticles aggregates, are attracting growing attention in fields such as catalysis or solar cells. The properties of these structures are influenced not only by their morphology and nanoparticles composition but also by the assembled particles boundaries. In order to determine the influence of these boundaries on the structures properties, the present investigation has been devoted to study the characteristics of anatase nanoparticles boundaries in titania aggregates prepared by TiCl4 hydrolysis at low temperature. Proton magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance and high resolution transmission electron mic…
Visibilities and invisibilities in academic work and career building
2021
In the current turbulent higher education environment, academic work and career building are in a state of flux. The implementation of the principles of New Public Management have intensified managerial control over academic work. Growing dependence on external funding and metrics-based performance assessments have made career building increasingly competitive, selective, and risky. Disciplinary and organisational boundaries have been dissolving as interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral ways of collaboration have become policy priorities. These trends have challenged visible boundaries between disciplines, organisations, sectors, work tasks and academic roles. However, at the same time, new v…
Fanonian analysis of racism and postcolonial structures of othering
2023
The paper explores how boundaries affect the search for identity in the context of racism and colonialism. Colonized individuals often experience a sense of alienation and inferiority caused by the limitations imposed by colonial power structures, leading to a quest for personal identity. However, the binary division between the colonizer and colonized affects everyone involved, making searching for personal identity more complex and reinforcing systemic racism. The first section of the article examines how race, a socially constructed concept, plays a crucial role in defining the difference between oneself and others, impo-sing structures of othering based on Fanonian analysis. The second …
