A single-domain Ritz approach for buckling and post-buckling analysis of cracked plates
2019
Abstract A Ritz approach for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling of plates with through-the-thickness cracks is presented. The plate behavior is described by the first order shear deformation theory and von Karman’s geometric nonlinearity. The admissible functions used in the displacements approximation are series of regular orthogonal polynomial supplemented with special functions able to decribe the dicontinuity across the crack and the singularity at the crack tips; boundary functions are used to fullfill the homogeneous essential boundary conditions. Convergence studies and analysis results are presented for buckling and post-buckling of plates with a central through-the-thicknes…
Generalized Rough Sets in Contextual Spaces
1997
This paper presents a generalization of Pawlak’s conception of rough sets [6] and [7]. It is more general than Pawlak’s solution of the problem of the definability of sets, the knowledge of which is incomplete and vague. The authors’ conception is based on conception of contextual space [4], which was inspired by Ziarko’s approach [12] to rough sets. Rough sets introduced by Pawlak [6] are particular cases of contextual rough sets defined in the contextual approximation space. This space is defined axiomatically by means of so called context relations. Every contextual rough set determined by set X can be determined by the union of the lower approximation of X and a subset of the boundary o…
Stochastic frontier models using R
2020
Abstract The production function is usually assumed to specify the maximum output obtainable, from a given set of inputs, describing the boundary or frontier of the obtainable output from each feasible combination of input; it relates the production process of individual units to the efficient border of the production possibilities. The measure of the distance of each unit from the border is the most immediate way to assess its (in)efficiency. However, the production function is not generally known, but it has only a set of information on each production unit and it is therefore essential to develop techniques to estimate the production frontier. Starting from the packages already developed…
Volumetric Reconstruction of Unorganized Set of Points with Implicit Surfaces
2005
Many solutions exist to rebuild a three-dimensional object represented by a set of points. The purpose of our work is to provide an automatic reconstruction from an unorganized cloud, describing an unknown shape, in the aim to compute its volume. The approach employed in this paper consists in filling the object's interior with isosurfaces of potential fields and to use their fusion property in order to find the full volume and the continuous shape of the sampled object. Thus, the first step of our reconstruction is to search a correct interior for the object described by the set of points. Then, comes the positioning of implicit primitives into the cloud, deep inside of it and close to the…
Two-Sided Estimates of the Solution Set for the Reaction–Diffusion Problem with Uncertain Data
2009
We consider linear reaction–diffusion problems with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann–Robin conditions. The diffusion matrix, reaction coefficient, and the coefficient in the Robin boundary condition are defined with an uncertainty which allow bounded variations around some given mean values. A solution to such a problem cannot be exactly determined (it is a function in the set of “possible solutions” formed by generalized solutions related to possible data). The problem is to find parameters of this set. In this paper, we show that computable lower and upper bounds of the diameter (or radius) of the set can be expressed throughout problem data and parameters that regulate the indeterminacy range. Ou…
Existence of a traveling wave solution in a free interface problem with fractional order kinetics
2021
Abstract In this paper we consider a system of two reaction-diffusion equations that models diffusional-thermal combustion with stepwise ignition-temperature kinetics and fractional reaction order 0 α 1 . We turn the free interface problem into a scalar free boundary problem coupled with an integral equation. The main intermediary step is to reduce the scalar problem to the study of a non-Lipschitz vector field in dimension 2. The latter is treated by qualitative topological methods based on the Poincare-Bendixson Theorem. The phase portrait is determined and the existence of a stable manifold at the origin is proved. A significant result is that the settling time to reach the origin is fin…
Middle and Upper Jurassic record in the Western Sicily successions
2015
Middle-Upper Jurassic successions cropping out in western Sicily have been the subject of detailed sedimentological, stratigraphic and palaeontological studies over the last 15 years based on the analysis of ammonite associations. Studies are preferentially focused on the Bathonian-Tithonian chronostratigraphic interval. Some studied successions represent the type-locality of many ammonite species defined by G.G. Gemmellaro, while others have been known only in Sicilian geological literature. The examined sequences were sedimented in different depositional environments (moderately deep external carbonate platform) called Domains, more precisely, the Trapanese and Saccense Domains (TP, Trapa…
