Impulse-based hybrid motion control

2017

The impulse-based discrete feedback control has been proposed in previous work for the second-order motion systems with damping uncertainties. The sate-dependent discrete impulse action takes place at zero crossing of one of both states, either relative position or velocity. In this paper, the proposed control method is extended to a general hybrid motion control form. We are using the paradigm of hybrid system modeling while explicitly specifying the state trajectories each time the continuous system state hits the guards that triggers impulsive control actions. The conditions for a stable convergence to zero equilibrium are derived in relation to the control parameters, while requiring on…

On Anomaly-Free Dark Matter Models

2019

We investigate the predictions of anomaly-free dark matter models for direct and indirect detection experiments. We focus on gauge theories where the existence of a fermionic dark matter candidate is predicted by anomaly cancellation, its mass is defined by the new symmetry breaking scale, and its stability is guaranteed by a remnant symmetry after the breaking of the gauge symmetry. We find an upper bound on the symmetry breaking scale by applying the relic density and perturbative constraints. The anomaly-free property of the theories allows us to perform a full study of the gamma lines from dark matter annihilation. We investigate the correlation between predictions for final-state radia…

Structure formation during an early period of matter domination

2014

In this work we show that modifying the thermal history of the Universe by including an early period of matter domination can lead to the formation of astronomical objects. However, the survival of these objects can only be possible if the dominating matter decays to a daughter particle which is not only almost degenerate with the parent particle but also has an open annihilation channel. This requirement translates in an upper bound for the coupling of such a channel and makes the early structure formation viable.

Universal mechanism of spin relaxation in solids

2005

We consider relaxation of a rigid spin cluster in an elastic medium in the presence of the magnetic field. Universal simple expression for spin-phonon matrix elements due to local rotations of the lattice is derived. The equivalence of the lattice frame and the laboratory frame approaches is established. For spin Hamiltonians with strong uniaxial anisotropy the field dependence of the transition rates due to rotations is analytically calculated and its universality is demonstrated. The role of time reversal symmetry in spin-phonon transitions has been elucidated. The theory provides lower bound on the decoherence of any spin-based solid-state qubit.

On the lower bound on the exchange-correlation energy in two dimensions

2010

We study the properties of the lower bound on the exchange-correlation energy in two dimensions. First we review the derivation of the bound and show how it can be written in a simple density-functional form. This form allows an explicit determination of the prefactor of the bound and testing its tightness. Next we focus on finite two-dimensional systems and examine how their distance from the bound depends on the system geometry. The results for the high-density limit suggest that a finite system that comes as close as possible to the ultimate bound on the exchange-correlation energy has circular geometry and a weak confining potential with a negative curvature. Quantum benchmark for teleportation and storage of squeezed states.

2007

We provide a quantum benchmark for teleportation and storage of single-mode squeezed states with zero displacement and a completely unknown degree of squeezing along a given direction. For pure squeezed input states, a fidelity higher than 81.5% has to be attained in order to outperform any classical strategy based on an estimation of the unknown squeezing and repreparation of squeezed states. For squeezed thermal input states, we derive an upper and a lower bound on the classical average fidelity which tighten for moderate degree of mixedness. These results enable a critical discussion of recent experiments with squeezed light.

Mass relations in noncommutative geometry revisited

1997

We generalize the notion of the 'noncommutative coupling constant' given by Kastler and Sch"ucker by dropping the constraint that it commute with the Dirac-operator. This leads essentially to the vanishing of the lower bound for the Higgsmass and of the upper bound for the W-mass.

Transition behavior in the channel capacity of two-quibit channels with memory

2004

We prove that a general upper bound on the maximal mutual information of quantum channels is saturated in the case of Pauli channels with an arbitrary degree of memory. For a subset of such channels we explicitly identify the optimal signal states. We show analytically that for such a class of channels entangled states are indeed optimal above a given memory threshold.

Electroweak precision data and right-handed gauge bosons

1998

The implication of recent electroweak precision data for left-right symmetric models is examined. We establish a lower bound on the charged and neutral right-handed gauge bosons independent of the right-handed neutrino mass and of any restrictions or implied symmetries on the right KM matrix.

Minimal mass size of a stable He-3 cluster

2005

The minimal number of 3He atoms required to form a bound cluster has been estimated by means of a Diffusion Monte Carlo procedure within the fixed-node approximation. Several importance sampling wave functions have been employed in order to consider different shell-model configurations. The resulting upper bound for the minimal number is 32 atoms.
