Abstract Objective This study examined the effectiveness of manualized cognitive therapy (mCT) following the Clark-Wells approach versus non-manualized cognitive-behavioral treatment-as-usual (CBTAU) for social anxiety disorder (SAD) in routine practice. Methods Forty-eight private practitioners were recruited within a multi-center trial and either received training in manualized CT for SAD or no such training. Hypoxic macrophages impair autophagy in epithelial cells through Wnt1: relevance in IBD.

A defective induction of epithelial autophagy may have a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases. This process is regulated mainly by extracellular factors such as nutrients and growth factors and is highly induced by diverse situations of stress. We hypothesized that epithelial autophagy is regulated by the immune response that in turn is modulated by local hypoxia and inflammatory signals present in the inflamed mucosa. Our results reveal that HIF-1 alpha and Wnt1 were co-localized with CD68 in cells of the mucosa of IBD patients. IL-9, which may be an inflammatory or regulatory cytokine, can be experimentally produced in a Th17 or modified Th2 context in the presence of T cell receptor (TCR) stimulation. Frequency and Indications of Parenteral Nutrition in an Acute Palliative Care Unit

The aim of this study was to estimate the use of parenteral nutrition (PN) in advanced cancer patients enrolled in an acute pain relief and palliative care unit of a comprehensive cancer center and the appropriateness of the criteria to select patients for PN. Fourteen out of 750 patients (1.8%) admitted to an acute palliative care unit were administered PN. Patients were referred from various settings. The mean age was 58 yr (range 37-79), and 9 were males. The mean hospital stay was 7.7 days (range 3-14), and the mean Karnofsky level was 35 (range 10-50).
