Abstract Background and purpose Information received by IBD patients about their disease is of particular importance. The objective of the study was to determine the information resources these patients used, together with their perceived information gaps and expected preferences. Patients and methods A prospective, observational, cross-sectional study conducted on IBD patients attending 13 Spanish hospitals during 2008. Patients completed a semi-structured 52-question survey. The aim of this study was, firstly, to confirm or refute the existence of circadian rhythms during several velocities of concentric action of the elbow flexor muscles and, secondly, to compare the characteristics of these circadian rhythms with those obtained during isometric actions. Background & Aims: Azathioprine is the gold standard for immunosuppressive therapy in Crohn's disease (CD) and its molecular mechanism of action is caused by the metabolite 6-thioguanosine triphosphate (TGTP). In this study we assessed the impact of TGTP levels for monitoring of azathioprine therapy. Methods: A novel, highly sensitive assay was established to measure levels of TGTP and its precursors 6-thioguanosine monophosphates and 6-thioguanosine diphosphates (TGDP) in red blood cells from 50 CD patients. We have studied the effect of a unique eccentric exercise session on the series elastic component (SEC) properties of human elbow flexors. Ten active females performed five sets of ten maximal eccentric contractions on an isokinetic ergometer. Maximal isometric (MVC) torque, and the corresponding myoelectrical activity (RMS) of the biceps brachii and the triceps brachii muscles were recorded before, immediately after, 48 h after, and 1 week after the exercise session.
