Search for first generation scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

2012

We report a search for first generation scalar leptoquarks using 1.03 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions data produced by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS experiment. Leptoquarks are sought via their decay into an electron or neutrino and a quark, producing events with two oppositely charged electrons and at least two jets, or events with an electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. Control data samples are used to validate background predictions from Monte Carlo simulation. In the signal region, the observed event yields are consistent with the background expectations. We exclude at 95% confidence level the production of first generat…

Search for vectorlikeBquarks in events with one isolated lepton, missing transverse momentum, and jets ats=8  TeVwith the ATLAS detector

2015

A search has been performed for pair production of heavy vectorlike down-type (B) quarks. The analysis explores the lepton-plus-jets final state, characterized by events with one isolated charged lepton (electron or muon), significant missing transverse momentum, and multiple jets. One or more jets are required to be tagged as arising from b quarks, and at least one pair of jets must be tagged as arising from the hadronic decay of an electroweak boson. The analysis uses the full data sample of pp collisions recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, operating at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). No significant excess of event…

An improved determination of the width of the top quark

2012

We present an improved determination of the total width of the top quark, $\Gamma_t$, using 5.4 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ Collider. The total width $\Gamma_t$ is extracted from the partial decay width $\Gamma(t\to Wb)$ and the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(t\to Wb)$. $\Gamma(t\to Wb)$ is obtained from the $t$-channel single top quark production cross section and $\mathcal{B}(t\to Wb)$ is measured in $t\bar{t}$ events. For a top mass of $172.5\;\rm GeV$, the resulting width is $\Gamma_t = 2.00^{+0.47}_{-0.43}$ GeV. This translates to a top-quark lifetime of $\tau_t = (3.29^{+0.90}_{-0.63})\times10^{-25}$ s. We also extra…

Observation of top-quark pair production in association with a photon and measurement of thett¯γproduction cross section inppcollisions ats=7TeV usin…

2015

A search is performed for top-quark pairs (t (t) over bar) produced together with a photon (gamma) with transverse energy greater than 20 GeV using a sample of t (t) over bar candidate events in final states with jets, missing transverse momentum, and one isolated electron or muon. The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.59 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. In total, 140 and 222 t (t) over bar gamma candidate events are observed in the electron and muon channels, to be compared to the expectation of 79 +/- 26 and 120 +/- 39 non-t (t) over bar gamma background events,…

Search for the neutral current top quark decayt→Zcusing the ratio ofZ-boson+4  jetstoW-boson+4  jetsproduction

2009

We have used the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II) to search for the flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark decay t {yields} Zc using a technique employing ratios of W and Z production, measured in p{bar p} data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.52 fb{sup -1}. The analysis uses a comparison of two decay chains, p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} {yields} WbWb {yields} {ell}{nu}bjjb and p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} {yields} ZcWb {yields} {ell}{ell}cjjb, to cancel systematic uncertainties in acceptance, efficiency, and luminosity. We validate the modeling of acceptance and efficiency for lepton identification over the multi-year dataset using another ratio of W and Z product…

Improved Vcs determination using precise lattice QCD form factors for D→Kℓν

2021

We provide a 0.8%-accurate determination of Vcs from combining experimental results for the differential rate of D→K semileptonic decays with precise form factors that we determine from lattice QCD. This is the first time that Vcs has been determined with an accuracy that allows its difference from 1 to be seen. Our lattice QCD calculation uses the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action for all valence quarks on gluon field configurations generated by the MILC Collaboration that include the effect of u, d, s, and c HISQ quarks in the sea. We use eight gluon field ensembles with five values of the lattice spacing ranging from 0.15 fm to 0.045 fm and include results with physical u/d q…

Search for New Phenomena intt¯Events with Large Missing Transverse Momentum in Proton-Proton Collisions ats=7  TeVwith the ATLAS Detector

2012

A search for new phenomena in tt events with large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The measurement is based on 1.04  fb-1 of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Contributions to this final state may arise from a number of standard model extensions. The results are interpreted in terms of a model where new top-quark partners are pair produced and each decay to an on-shell top (or antitop) quark and a long-lived undetected neutral particle. The data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. A limit at 95% confidence level is set excluding a cross section times branching ratio of 1.1 pb …

Measurements of the Total and Differential Higgs Boson Production Cross Sections Combining theH→γγandH→ZZ*→4ℓDecay Channels ats=8  TeVwith the ATLAS …

2015

Measurements of the total and differential cross sections of Higgs boson production are performed using 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Cross sections are obtained from measured H -> gamma gamma and H -> ZZ*. 4l event yields, which are combined accounting for detector efficiencies, fiducial acceptances, and branching fractions. Differential cross sections are reported as a function of Higgs boson transverse momentum, Higgs boson rapidity, number of jets in the event, and transverse momentum of the leading jet. The total production cross section is determined to be sigma(pp -> …

Improved Measurement ofB+→ρ+ρ0and Determination of the Quark-Mixing Phase Angleα

2009

We present improved measurements of the branching fraction ${\cal B}$, the longitudinal polarization fraction $f_L$, and the direct {\ensuremath{CP}\xspace} asymmetry {\ensuremath{{\cal A}_{CP}}\xspace} in the $B$ meson decay channel $B^+\to\rho^+\rho^0$. The data sample was collected with the {{\slshape B\kern-0.1em{\smaller A}\kern-0.1em B\kern-0.1em{\smaller A\kern-0.2em R}}} detector at SLAC. The results are ${\cal B} (\Bp\ra\rprz)=(23.7\pm1.4\pm1.4)\times10^{-6}$, $f_L=0.950\pm0.015\pm0.006$, and $\Acp=-0.054\pm0.055\pm0.010$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Based on these results, we perform an isospin analysis and determine the CKM weak phase ang…

Search for Pair Production of Supersymmetric Top Quarks in Dilepton Events frompp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2010

We present the results of a search for pair production of the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (the top squark (t) over tilde (1)) decaying to a b quark and a chargino (chi) over tilde (+/-)(1) with a subsequent (chi) over tilde (+/-)(1) decay into a neutralino (chi) over tilde (0)(1), lepton l, and neutrino nu Using a data sample corresponding to 2.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1: 96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector, we reconstruct the mass of top squark candidate events and fit the observed mass spectrum to a combination of standard model processes and (t) over tilde (1)(t) over tilde (1). We find no evidence for (t) over tilde (1)(t…
