Probing Higgs-portal dark matter with vector-boson fusion

2020

We constrain the Higgs-portal model employing the vector-boson fusion channel at the LHC. In particular, we include the phenomenologically interesting parameter region near the Higgs resonance, where the Higgs-boson mass is close to the threshold for dark-matter production and a running-width prescription has to be employed for the Higgs-boson propagator. Limits for the Higgs-portal coupling as a function of the dark-matter mass are derived from the CMS search for invisible Higgs-boson decays in vector-boson fusion at 13 TeV. Furthermore, we perform projections for the 14 TeV HL-LHC and the 27 TeV HE-LHC taking into account a realistic estimate of the systematic uncertainties. The respectiv…

Measurement of the W→τντ cross section in pp collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

2012

The cross section for the production of W bosons with subsequent decay W to tau nu is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on a data sample that was recorded in 2010 at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb^-1. The cross section is measured in a region of high detector acceptance and then extrapolated to the full phase space. The product of the total W production cross section and the W to tau nu branching ratio is measured to be 11.1 +/- 0.3 (stat) +/- 1.7 (syst) +/- 0.4 (lumi) nb.

Search for high-mass dilepton resonances using 139 fb−1 of pp collision data collected at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

2019

A search for high-mass dielectron and dimuon resonances in the mass range of 250 GeV to 6 TeV is presented. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb −1 . A functional form is fitted to the dilepton invariant-mass distribution to model the contribution from background processes, and a generic signal shape is used to determine the significance of observed deviations from this background estimate. No significant deviation is observed and upper limits are placed at the 95% confidence level on the fiducial cross-section times bran…

Search for a heavy narrow resonance decaying to eμ, eτ, or μτ with the ATLAS detector in s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC

2013

This Letter presents the results of a search for a heavy particle decaying into an e^±μ^∓e^±μ^∓, or μ^±τ^∓ final state in pp collisions at View the MathML sources=7 TeV. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−14.6 fb^(−1). No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed, and exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on the cross section times branching ratio for the production of an R-parity-violating supersymmetric tau sneutrino. For a sneutrino mass of 500 (2000) GeV, the observed limits on the production cross section times branching ratio are 3.2 (1.4) fb, 42 (17) fb, and 40 (1…

Search for the decayD0→γγand measurement of the branching fraction forD0→π0π0

2012

We search for the rare decay of the D^0 meson to two photons, D^0→γγ, and present a measurement of the branching fraction for a D^0 meson decaying to two neutral pions, B(D^0→π^0π^0). The data sample analyzed corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 470.5  fb^(-1) collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider at SLAC. We place an upper limit on the branching fraction, B(D^0→γγ)<2.2×10^(-6), at 90% confidence level. This limit improves on the existing limit by an order of magnitude. We also find B(D^0→π^0π^0)=(8.4±0.1±0.4±0.3)×10^(-4).

Search for $\gamma\gamma$ decays of a Higgs boson produced in association with a fermion pair in $e^+ e^-$ collisions at LEP

2000

A serach for gamma gamma decays of Higgs boson is performed in the data sample collected at LEP with the ALEPH detector between 1991 and 1999. This corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 672 pb-1 centre-of-mass energies ranging from 88 to 202 GeV. The search is based on topologies arising from a Higgs boson produced in association with a fermion pair via the Higgs-strahlung process e+e- -> Hffbar, with ffbar = nunubar, e+e-, mu+mu-, tau+tau- or qqbar... Observation of the Dalitz decayη′→γe+e−

2015

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay eta' -> gamma e(+)e(-), based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector. The eta' mesons are produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay process. The ratio (eta' -> gamma e(+)e(-))/Gamma (eta' -> gamma gamma) is measured to be (2.13 +/- 0.09(stat) +/- 0.07(sys)) x 10(-2). This corresponds to a branching fraction B(eta' -> gamma e(+)e(-)) = (4.69 +/- 0.20(stat) +/- 0.23(sys)) x 10(-4). The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e(+)e(-) invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the vector meson dominance model.

Measurement of branching fractions ofBdecays toK1(1270)πandK1(1400)πand determination of the CKM angleαfromB0→a1(1260)±π∓

2010

We report measurements of the branching fractions of neutral and charged B meson decays to final states containing a K_1(1270) or K_1(1400) meson and a charged pion. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, correspond to 454×10^6 BB pairs produced in e^+e^- annihilation. We measure the branching fractions B(B^0→K_1(1270)^+π-+K_1(1400)^+π-)=3.1_(-0.7)^(+0.8)×10^(-5) and B(B^+→K_1(1270)^0π^++K_1(1400)^0π^+)=2.9_(-1.7)^(+2.9)×10^(-5) (<8.2×10^(-5) at 90% confidence level), where the errors are statistical and systematic combined. The B^0 decay mode is observed with a significance of 7.5σ, while a significance of 3.2σ is obtained for the B^+ decay…

Study of resonances in exclusiveBdecays toD¯(*)D(*)K

2008

We present a study of resonances in exclusive decays of $B$ mesons to $\bar{D}^{(*)} D^{(*)} K$. We report the observation of the decays $B \to \Dbar^{(*)} D^+_{s1}(2536)$ where the $D^+_{s1}(2536)$ is reconstructed in the $D^{*0}K^+$ and $D^{*+} K^0_S$ decay channels. We report also the observation of the decays $B \to \psi(3770) K$ where the $\psi(3770)$ decays to $\Dbar^0 D^0$ and $D^- D^+$. In addition, we present the observation of an enhancement for the $\Dbar^{*0} D^0$ invariant mass in the decays $B \to \Dbar^{*0} D^0 K$, at a mass of $(3875.1 {}^{+0.7}_{-0.5} \pm 0.5)$ MeV/$c^2$ with a width of $(3.0 {}^{+1.9}_{-1.4} \pm 0.9)$ MeV (the first errors are statistical and the second ar…

Bmeson decays to charmless meson pairs containingηorη′mesons

2009

We present updated measurements of the branching fractions for B-0 meson decays to eta K-0, eta eta, eta phi, eta omega, eta K-'(0), eta(')eta('), eta(')phi, and eta(')omega, and branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries for B+ decays to eta pi(+), eta K+, eta(')pi(+), and eta K-'(+). The data represent the full data set of 467x10(6) BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Besides large signals for the four charged B decay modes and for B-0 ->eta K-'(0), we find evidence for three B-0 decay modes at greater than 3.0 sigma significance. We find B(B-0 ->eta K-0)=(1.15(-0.38)(+0.43)+…
