The Extinction of Generations in Generation-Dependent Bellman-Harris Branching Processes with Exponential Lifespan

1978

If V is the time when in a Bellman-Harris branching model the k-th generation disappears out of the population, and if all individuals have exponentially distributed lifespans, the asymptotic behavior of the tail of the distribution of the extinction time V , P(V > t), is obtained, even if the distributions of the lifespans and the offspring sizes vary generation-dependent. Furthermore the times of extinction of several successive generations can be specified for the generation- independent case of the Markov branching model in continuous time. If the initial number of individuals and the absolute time grow up appropriately linked, a Poisson limit theorem for generation sizes will be given.

2013

By analyzing data samples of 2.9 fb(-1) collected at root s = 3.773 GeV, 482 pb(-1) collected at root s = 4.009 GeV and 67 pb(-1) collected at root s = 3.542, 3.554, 3.561, 3.600 and 3.650 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we search for psi(3770) and psi(4040) decay to baryonic final states, including Lambda(Lambda) over bar pi(+)pi(-), Lambda(Lambda) over bar pi(0), Lambda(Lambda) over bar eta , Sigma(0)(Sigma) over bar (0) and Xi(0) (Xi) over bar (0) decays. None are observed, and upper limits are set at the 90% confidence level.

Size, Form and Flexibility of the Rubber Molecule

1962

Abstract Natural rubber can be brominated in dilute cyclohexane solution, whereby the molecular weight, corresponding to the bromine content, increases. For brominated rubber, increasing bromine content makes cyclohexane an increasingly poorer solvent, which is shown by a contraction of the molecule coils and a decrease in the second virial coefficient. Quantitative results were obtained through viscosity and light scattering measurements. Cyclohexane solutions of brominated rubber containing about 43% bromine have a θ point at room temperature. Here the second virial coefficient is zero and the coil has an ideal Gaussian density distribution. In this state the coil diameter is about 1.6 ti…

Search for neutral heavy leptons produced in Z decays

1997

Weak isosinglet Neutral Heavy Leptons ($\nu_m$) have been searched for using data collected by the DELPHI detector corresponding to $3.3\times 10^{6}$ hadronic~Z$^{0}$ decays at LEP1. Four separate searches have been performed, for short-lived $\nu_m$ production giving monojet or acollinear jet topologies, and for long-lived $\nu_m$ giving detectable secondary vertices or calorimeter clusters. No indication of the existence of these particles has been found, leading to an upper limit for the branching ratio $BR($Z$^0\rightarrow \nu_m \overline{\nu})$ of about $1.3\times10^{-6}$ at 95\% confidence level for $\nu_m$ masses between 3.5 and 50 GeV/$c^2$. Outside this range the limit weakens rap…

Gas—liquid chromatographic analyses

1984

Abstract The gas chromatography (GC) of n -alkyl acetates (CH 3 COOR), chloroacetates (CH 2 ClCOOR), dichloroacetates (CHCl 2 COOR) and trichloroacetates (CCl 3 COOR), where the alcohol chain length (R) varied between 1 and 8, and certain of their monochlorinated derivatives, 176 compounds altogether, has been studied on SE-30 and OV-351 glass capillary columns under the same operating conditions. The isomeric monochlorinated esters are eluted in direct order from the 1- chloro to the ω-chloro isomer, the separation of the isomers being complete on OV- 351. On SE-30, however, the peaks of the 6- and 7-chlorooctyl esters are partly overlapped. The separation of the mixtures of odd- and e…

Search for the decayB¯0→Λc+p¯pp¯

2014

We report a search for the decay B^0 → Λ^+_cppp. Using a data sample of 471×10^6 BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II2 storage ring at SLAC, we find no events and set an upper limit on the branching fraction B(B^0 → Λ^+_cppp)×^(B(Λ^+_c→pK^−π^+))_(0.050) <2.8×10^(−6) at 90% C.L., where we have normalized B(Λ^+_c → pK^−π^+) to the world average value.

Gas—liquid chromatographic analyses

1985

Abstract The gas chromatographic retention behaviour of methylethyl, 1-methylpropyl, 2-methylpropyl, 1,2-dimethylpropyl, 1-methylbutyl and 3-methylbutyl esters of benzoic and o-, m- and p-chlorobenzoic acids on low-polarity (SE-30) and polar (OV-351) capillary columns under several temperature-programmed and isothermal conditions is reported. The retention data and the Kovats retention indices for all 24 components are given and the separation of a complex mixture is discussed. The retention index increments have been used to examine the effects of chain branching and chlorine substitution. The results are compared with those for n-alkyl benzoates and monochlorobenzoates.

Measurement of Branching Fractions and Charge Asymmetries inB±→ρ±π0andB±→ρ0π±Decays, and Search forB0→ρ0π0

2004

We present measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries in $B$-meson decays to ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$, ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, and ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$. The data sample comprises $89\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}B\overline{B}$ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$ Factory at SLAC. We find the charge-averaged branching fractions $\mathcal{B}({B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0})=[10.9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.9\mathrm{(}\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{…

Measurement of the branching fraction forB±→χc0K±

2004

We present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay ${B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ from a sample of $89\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. The ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}$ meson is reconstructed through its two-body decays to ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}.$ We measure $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})\ifmmode\times\e…

Evidence forB+→J/ψpΛ¯and Search forB0→J/ψpp¯

2003

We have performed a search for the decays ${B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}p\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ and ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}p\overline{p}$ in a data set of $(88.9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.0)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ decays collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Four charged $B$ candidates have been observed with an expected background of $0.21\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.14$ events. The corresponding branching fraction is $({12}_{\ensuremath{-}6}^{+9})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^…
