Measurement of theB¯0→D*+ℓ−ν¯ℓdecay rate and|Vcb|
2005
We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ based on a sample of about 53,700 \mbox{$\Bzb \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}$} decays observed by the \babar\ detector. We obtain the branching fraction averaged over $\ell = e,\mu$, ${\cal B}(\Bzb \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}) = (4.90 \pm 0.07\mathrm{(stat.)}^{+0.36}_{-0.35}\mathrm{(syst.)})\%$. We measure the differential decay rate as a function of $w$, the relativistic boost $\gamma$ of the $D^{*+}$ in the ${\Bzb}$ rest frame. By extrapolating $d\Gamma/dw$ to the kinematic limit $w \rightarrow 1$, we extract the product of $|V_{cb}|$ and the axial form factor ${\cal A}_1(w=1)$. …
Extraction of form Factors from a Four-Dimensional Angular Analysis of B¯→D*ℓ−ν¯ℓ
2019
An angular analysis of the decay B[over ¯]→D^{*}l^{-}ν[over ¯]_{l}, l∈{e,μ}, is reported using the full e^{+}e^{-} collision data set collected by the BABAR experiment at the ϒ(4S) resonance. One B meson from the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, which constrains the kinematics and provides a determination of the neutrino momentum vector. The kinematics of the semileptonic decay is described by the dilepton mass squared, q^{2}, and three angles. The first unbinned fit to the full four-dimensional decay rate in the standard model is performed in the so-called Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed approach, which employs a generic q^{2} parametrization of the underlying f…
Search for heavy vector-like quarks coupling to light quarks in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2012
This letter presents a search for singly produced vector-like quarks, Q, coupling to light quarks, q. The search is sensitive to both charged current (CC) and neutral current (NC) processes, p p --> Q q --> W q q' and p p --> Q q --> Z q q' with a leptonic decay of the vector gauge boson. In 1.04/fb of data taken in 2011 by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, no evidence of such heavy vector-like quarks is observed above the expected Standard Model background. Limits on the heavy vector-like quark production cross section times branching ratio as a function of mass m_Q are obtained. For a coupling kappa_(qQ) = v/m_Q, where v is the Higgs vacuum expectation value…
Improved measurement ofCPobservables inB±→DCP0K±decays
2008
We present a study of the decay B{sup -} {yields} D{sub (CP)}{sup 0}K{sup -} and its charge conjugate, where D{sub (CP)}{sup 0} is reconstructed in both a non-CP flavor eigenstate and in CP (CP-even and CP-odd) eigenstates, based on a sample of 382 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring. We measure the direct CP asymmetries A{sub CP{+-}} and the ratios of the branching fractions R{sub CP{+-}}: A{sub CP+} = 0.27 {+-} 0.09(stat) {+-} 0.04(syst), A{sub CP-} = -0.09 {+-} 0.09(stat) {+-} 0.02(syst), R{sub CP+} = 1.06 {+-} 0.10(stat) {+-} 0.05(syst), R{sub CP-} = 1.03 {+-} 0.10(stat) {+-} 0.05(syst). These resul…
Search for single production of scalar leptoquarks in pp¯ collisions decaying into muons and quarks with the D0 detector
2007
We report on a search for second generation leptoquarks LQ_2 which decay into a muon plus quark in p\bar{p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV in the D0 detector using an integrated luminosity of about 300 pb-1. No evidence for a leptoquark signal is observed and an upper bound on the product of the cross section for single leptoquark production times branching fraction beta into a quark and a muon was determined for second generation scalar leptoquarks as a function of the leptoquark mass. This result has been combined with a previously published D0 search for leptoquark pair production to obtain leptoquark mass limits as a function of the leptoquark-muon-quark cou…
Search for W′→tb resonances with left- and right-handed couplings to fermions
2011
We present a search for the production of a heavy gauge boson, W', that decays to third-generation quarks, by the D0 Collaboration in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV. We set 95% confidence level upper limits on the production cross section times branching fraction. For the first time, we set limits for arbitrary combinations of left- and right-handed couplings of the W' boson to fermions. For couplings with the same strength as the standard model W boson, we set the following limits for M(W') > m(nu_R): M(W')>863 GeV for purely left-handed couplings, M(W')>885 GeV for purely right-handed couplings, and M(W')>916 GeV if both left- and right-handed couplings are present. The limit for r…
Measurement of the Branching Fractions ofB¯→D**ℓ−ν¯ℓDecays in Events Tagged by a Fully ReconstructedBMeson
2008
We report a measurement of the branching fractions of D**- decays based on 417 fb-1 of data collected at the (4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage rings. Events are selected by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. A fit to the invariant mass differences m(D(*))-m(D(*)) is performed to extract the signal yields of the different D** states. We observe the D**- decay modes corresponding to the four D** states predicted by heavy quark symmetry with a significance greater than 5 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties.
Consistent Treatment of Axions in the Weak Chiral Lagrangian.
2021
We present a consistent implementation of weak decays involving an axion or axion-like particle in the context of an effective chiral Lagrangian. We argue that previous treatments of such processes have used an incorrect representation of the flavor-changing quark currents in the chiral theory. As an application, we derive model-independent results for the decays $K^-\to\pi^- a$ and $\pi^-\to e^-\bar\nu_e a$ at leading order in the chiral expansion and for arbitrary axion couplings and mass. In particular, we find that the $K^-\to\pi^- a$ branching ratio is almost 40 times larger than previously estimated.
Split-family SUSY, $$U(2)^5$$ U ( 2 ) 5 flavour symmetry and neutrino physics
2014
In split-family SUSY, one can use a U(2)^3 symmetry to protect flavour observables in the quark sector from SUSY contributions. However, attempts to extend this procedure to the lepton sector by using an analogous U(2)^5 symmetry fail to reproduce the neutrino data without introducing some form of fine-tuning. In this work, we solve this problem by shifting the U(2)^2 symmetry acting on leptons towards the second and third generations. This allows neutrino data to be reproduced without much difficulties, as well as protecting the leptonic flavour observables from SUSY. Key signatures are a $\mu\to e\gamma$ branching ratio possibly observable in the near future, as well as having selectrons …
Search for heavy resonances decaying to a photon and a hadronically decaying Z/W/H boson in pp collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2018
This Letter presents a search for the production of new heavy resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon using proton-proton collision data at √ s = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb − 1 . The analysis is performed by reconstructing hadronically decaying Higgs boson ( H → b ¯ b ) candidates as single large-radius jets. A novel algorithm using information about the jet constituents in the center-of-mass frame of the jet is implemented to identify the two b quarks in the single jet. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Upper limits are set on the production cross-s…
