Search for weakly decaying b -flavored pentaquarks
2018
Investigations of the existence of pentaquark states containing a single $b$ (anti)quark decaying weakly into four specific final states J/$\psi K^+\pi^- p$, J/$\psi K^- \pi^- p$, J/$\psi K^- \pi^+ p$, and $J/\psi \phi (1020) p$ are reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0/fb in 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions acquired with the LHCb detector. Signals are not observed and upper limits are set on the product of the production cross section times branching fraction with respect to that of the $\Lambda_b$.
Searches for lepton number violating $K^+$ decays
2019
The NA62 experiment at CERN reports a search for the lepton number violating decays K+ -> pi(-)e(+)e(+) and K+ -> pi(-)mu(+)mu(+) using a data sample collected in 2017. No signals are observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions of these decays of 2.2 x 10(-10) and 4.2 x 10(-11) are obtained, respectively, at 90% confidence level. These upper limits improve on previously reported measurements by factors of 3 and 2, respectively.

Precise measurements of half-lives and branching ratios for the ββ mirror transitions in the decay of 23Mg and 27Si
2017
Half-lives and branching ratios for the two mirror ββ decays of 23Mg and 27Si have been measured at the University of Jyväskylä with the IGISOL facility. The results obtained, T1/2=11.303(3)T1/2=11.303(3) s and T1/2=4.112(2)T1/2=4.112(2) s for the half-lives of 23Mg and 27Si , respectively, are 7 and 8 times more precise than the averages of previous measurements. The values obtained for the super-allowed branching ratios of 23Mg and 27Si are B.R.=92.18(8)%B.R.=92.18(8)% and B.R.=99.74(2)%B.R.=99.74(2)% , respectively. The result for 23Mg is three times more precise than the average of the previous measurements, while for 27Si the precision has not been improved, the average of the previous…
Transfer to Polymer and Long-Chain Branching in PLP-SEC of Acrylates
2009
Pulsed laser polymerization (PLP) combined with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is the method of choice for determining propagation rate coefficients. The influence of the long-chain branching in PLP-SEC is investigated using multiple-detection SEC and a recently developed method to detect long-chain branching [P. Castignolles, R. Grab, M. Parkinson, M. Wilhelm, M. Gaborieau, Polymer 2009, 50, 2373.] While little or no long-chain branching is detected in poly(n-butyl acrylate), the error in relevant molecular weights of poly(2-ethylhexyl acrylate) is large (30-100%) due to long-chain branching. Possible variations of propagation rate coefficient with alkyl groups in alkyl acrylates or w…
The antioxidant effect in controlling thermal degradation of a low density polyethylene blown film
2004
Abstract It is well known that antioxidants are widely used to prevent thermal degradation of high density and linear low density polyethylene. Antioxidants are not always present in low density polyethylene and only small amounts are usually added to these resins. In this work the effect of an antioxidant system on a low density resin having MFI (190 °C/2.16 kg)=2 g/10′ and density 0.9230 g/cm3 has been studied. Its effect on melt viscosity has been studied by means of a batch mixer and the torque vs time behaviour has been analysed. The results show that a maximum in the torque vs time curve can be seen for the material containing antioxidant. In contrast, the material without antioxidant…
Phase behavior of the system hyperbranched polyglycerol+methanol+carbon dioxide
2010
Abstract Phase equilibrium data have been measured for the ternary system hyperbranched polyglycerol + methanol + carbon dioxide at temperatures of 313–450 K and pressures up to 13.5 MPa. Phase changes were determined according to a synthetic method using the Cailletet setup. At elevated temperatures the system shows a liquid–liquid–vapor region with lower solution temperatures. Besides the vapor–liquid and liquid–liquid equilibria, the vapor–liquid to vapor–liquid–liquid and vapor–liquid–liquid to liquid–liquid phase boundaries are reported at different polymer molar masses and can serve as test sets for thermodynamic models. A distinct influence of the polymer molar mass on the vapor–liqu…
Molecular Parameters of Hyperbranched Polymers Made by Self-Condensing Vinyl Polymerization. 2. Degree of Branching
1997
Using a modified definition, the average degree of branching, , the fraction of branchpoints, , as well as the fractions of various structural units are calculated as a function of conversion of double bonds for hyperbranched polymers formed by self-condensing vinyl polymerization (SCVP) of monomers (or “inimers”) with the general structure AB*, where A is a vinyl group and B* is an initiating group. The results are compared to those for the polycondensation of AB2-type monomers. At full conversion, is somewhat smaller for SCVP ( ∞ ≈ 0.465) than for AB2 systems ( ∞ = 0.5). There are two kinds of linear groups in SCVP whereas there is only one kind in AB2 systems. Since there are two differe…
Effect of core-forming molecules on molecular weight distribution and degree of branching in the synthesis of hyperbranched polymers
1998
The polydispersity index, the molecular weight distribution (MWD), and the degree of branching ( ) are calculated for hyperbranched polymers obtained in self-condensing vinyl polymerization of AB* monomers in the presence of a core-forming molecule (i.e. a multifunctional initiator, Bf*). Two cases are considered: (a) batch polymerization, i.e., with all components mixed together; (b) semibatch polymerization, i.e., slow addition of the monomer to the core-forming molecule. The results obtained for the latter case are also valid for polycondensation of AB2 monomers. The presence of core-forming molecules leads to a considerable narrowing of the MWD's, the polydispersity index decreasing wi…
