Noise effect in a sine-Gordon Lattice

International audience; This paper is devoted to the influence of internal noise in a sine-Gordon chain exhibiting the well known nonlinear supratransmission phenomenon. It is shown that spatiotemporal noise can trigger breather modes with a given probability in a range of parameters where they do not occur without noise. A frequency analysis is carried out to quantify the degree of coherence of the emitted breather. It is shown that there exists an appropriate amount of noise which ensures the existence of breather modes with the best coherence.

Smoothed score confidence interval for the breakpoint in segmented regression

For the breakpoint parameter in segmented regression we consider confidence intervals based on the score statistic. Due to unsmoothness of the score, we propose to build the confidence intervals using its smoothed version under proper shape restrictions. Some simulations are presented to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed approach.

To overcome the well known oddities in testing for the existence of a breakpoint in segmented regression models, we discuss a novel approach based on the Pearson X2 statistic which can be understood as an approximation of the Score statistic. Objective: To investigate associations of daily breakfast consumption (DBC) with demographic and lifestyle factors in 41 countries. Methods: Design: Survey including nationally representative samples of 11–15 year olds (n = 204,534) (HBSC 2005–2006). Statistics: Multilevel logistic regression analyses Results: DBC varied from 33 % (Greek girls) to 75 % (Portuguese boys). In most countries, lower DBC was noticed in girls, older adolescents, those with lower family affluence and those living in single-parent families. DBC was positively associated with healthy lifestyle behaviours and negatively with unhealthy lifestyle behaviours. peerReviewed
