Clarification of the Three-Body Decay ofC12(12.71 MeV)

2003

Using $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decays of a clean source of $^{12}\mathrm{N}$ produced at the IGISOL facility, we have measured the breakup of the $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ (12.71 MeV) state into three $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles with a segmented particle detector setup. The high quality of the data permits solving the question of the breakup mechanism of the 12.71 MeV state, a longstanding problem in few-body nuclear physics. Among existing models, a modified sequential model fits the data best, but systematic deviations indicate that a three-body description is needed.

Three-nucleon calculations for local potentials with the quasiparticle method

1974

The three-nucleon system for energies below the breakup threshold is investigated with the help of the quasiparticle method. Two types of local potentials are used, namely purely attractive Yukawa potentials and the soft-core potentials of Malfliet and Tjon. The results obtained are compared with those of other calculations employing different methods.

Cluster-transfer reactions with radioactive beams: A spectroscopic tool for neutron-rich nuclei

2015

An exploratory experiment performed at REX-ISOLDE to investigate cluster-transfer reactions with radioactive beams in inverse kinematics is presented. The aim of the experiment was to test the potential of cluster-transfer reactions at the Coulomb barrier as a mechanism to explore the structure of exotic neutron-rich nuclei. The reactions Li7(Rb98,αxn) and Li7(Rb98,txn) were studied through particle-γ coincidence measurements, and the results are presented in terms of the observed excitation energies and spins. Moreover, the reaction mechanism is qualitatively discussed as a transfer of a clusterlike particle within a distorted-wave Born approximation framework. The results indicate that cl…

Temperature Inversion Breakup with Impacts on Air Quality in Urban Valleys Influenced by Topographic Shading

2015

AbstractUrban valleys can experience serious air pollution problems as a combined result of their limited ventilation and the high emission of pollutants from the urban areas. Idealized simulations were analyzed to elucidate the breakup of an inversion layer in urban valleys subject to a strong low-level temperature inversion and topographic effects on surface heating such as topographic shading, as well as the associated air pollution transport mechanisms. The results indicate that the presence and evolution in time of the inversion layer and its interplay with an urban heat island within the valley strongly influence the venting of pollutants out of urban valleys. Three mechanisms of air …

New model describing the total dispersion of dry powder agglomerates

2010

Micron and submicron particles tend to form agglomerates due to adhesive and cohesive forces. The disintegration of these dry powder agglomerates often represents a major task in powder technology. One model describing the mechanical stability of granulates is given by the planar fracture model of Rumpf. In the present work, a new model is introduced intended for applications where a complete disintegration of dry powder agglomerates is required (e.g. for pharmaceutical aerosol generation). Therefore, the breakup of every single connection inside an agglomerate is considered and the dispersion strength σdisp of model agglomerates is calculated and discussed. In order to balance the stabilit…

Evidence for thermal equilibration in multifragmentation reactions probed with bremsstrahlung photons

2001

The production of nuclear bremsstrahlung photons (E$_{\gamma}>$ 30 MeV) has been studied in inclusive and exclusive measurements in four heavy-ion reactions at 60{\it A} MeV. The measured photon spectra, angular distributions and multiplicities indicate that a significant part of the hard-photons are emitted in secondary nucleon-nucleon collisions from a thermally equilibrated system. The observation of the thermal component in multi-fragment $^{36}$Ar+$^{197}$Au reactions suggests that the breakup of the thermalized source produced in this system occurs on a rather long time-scale.

Structure and Shear Response of Janus Colloid–Polymer Mixtures in Solution

2020

We investigate the structure and rheological properties of dilute colloid-polymer mixtures at rest and under shear via molecular simulations that take into account hydrodynamic interactions. Mixtures of amphiphilic Janus colloids (JCs) and hydrophobic/amphiphilic polymers are considered for various solvent qualities and polymer concentrations. Free polymers, small polymer droplets, and hybrid aggregates coexist in mixtures with slightly hydrophobic homopolymers. As the solvent quality worsens, all polymers aggregate into small droplets, covered and stabilized by the JCs. In mixtures with amphiphilic polymers, we observe the coexistence of free polymers, purely polymeric micelles, and hybrid…

The Origin of Non-thermal Fluctuations in Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

2021

Core flooding experiments to determine multiphase flow in properties of rock such as relative permeability can show significant fluctuations in terms of pressure, saturation, and electrical conductivity. That is typically not considered in the Darcy scale interpretation but treated as noise. However, in recent years, flow regimes that exhibit spatio-temporal variations in pore scale occupancy related to fluid phase pressure changes have been identified. They are associated with topological changes in the fluid configurations caused by pore-scale instabilities such as snap-off. The common understanding of Darcy-scale flow regimes is that pore-scale phenomena and their signature should have a…

LA FRAGMENTATION DES RÉSEAUX D'INNOVATION ET LA DYNAMIQUE DES SYSTÈMES TERRITORIAUX DE PRODUCTION ET D'INNOVATION DANS LES SECTEURS TRADITIONNELS

2016
