Wielka wojna północna oznaczała zmierzch starych potęg takich, jak Szwecja czy Rzeczypospolita i narodziny nowej - Rosji cara Piotra I. Przeprowadził on w państwie głębokie reformy oraz zmodernizował i unowocześnił siły zbrojne, tworząc bałtycką flotę wojenną. Zmiany te nie uszły uwadze ambasadorów obcych państw, w tym oczywiście Wielkiej Brytanii, którzy raportowali o nich do centrali. Sporządzali także zestawienia sił zbrojnych Rosji, w tym marynarki oraz umieszczali przy takiej okazji trafne spostrzeżenia dotyczące żołdu czy werbunku marynarzy. Kilka z nich będzie przedmiotem analizy, a dane które można z nich odczytać będą mogły świadczyć o rozwoju carskich sił zbrojnych.

This paper explores the British national icon, the English Bulldog, and its symbolic connotations with spirited and determined courage. In charting the usage of the bulldog for propaganda purposes, it suggests that although the use of the bulldog is not as fashionable as it once was, it is nevertheless a firmly fixed British cultural icon used for propaganda, as it was demonstrated in the referendum campaign over the United Kingdom’s membership in the European Union.
Children's exploration of the concepts of home and belonging: Capturing views from five European countries.

Understanding one's sense of belonging is a central part of identity formation and self-awareness; feeling safe somewhere, with specific people is identified as a basic human need. This paper explores the ideas of children from three age groups in five different European as they discussed the concepts of ‘home’ and ‘belonging’. Findings showed that the children's ideas could be organised into six interrelated aspects: Spatiality, Materiality, Multiplicity, Social Relations, Affect, and Dislocation. Tutkimus selvittää minkälaisia Britanniaan liittyviä kulttuurisia ilmiötä korostetaan 1980-luvun ja 2000-luvun suomalaisten 7. luokan kirjojen kuvituksessa. Tutkimuksen kohteena on kaksi suomalaista 7. luokan englannin kielen oppikirjaa 1980-luvulta, sekä kaksi 7. luokan englannin kielen oppikirjaa 2000-luvulta. Tutkimus pohjautuu määrällisesti toteutettuun tutkimukseen, jossa tutkimuskohteena olevien kirjojen kuvien määrä on laskettu ennalta määriteltyjen, Britannian kulttuuria kuvaavien teemojen mukaan.
