Inverse kinematic control of an industrial robot used in Vessel-to-Vessel Motion Compensation

2017

An increased level of complex offshore load handling operations is expected due to an increased amount of floating wind turbines, remote fish farms, and autonomous shipping, and in general more advanced operations to be carried out at sea. A common problem for these applications is that both equipment and personnel have to be transported between two floating vessels at sea. An investigation of the Vessel-to-Vessel Motion Compensation (VVMC) problem may increase the efficiency and safety of such operations in the future. In this paper, a control algorithm has been developed and experimentally tested in the Norwegian Motion Laboratory featuring two Stewart platforms (SPs), an industrial robot…

Mobile Phone Data Statistics as Proxy Indicator for Regional Economic Activity Assessment

2019

The mobile data analysis is an authoritative source of information for problems solving in the fields of human activity recognition, population dynamics, tourism, transport planning, traffics measuring, public administration and other activities and could be the source for valuable information as a proxy indicator. One of the obstacles to user data from mobile operators is compliance to the General Data Protection Regulation, so the development of data analytics approach that protects personal data without a necessity to identify mobility of particular persons was developed, that still provides economically relevant data. In the present research, the method for the economic activity assessm…

Broadband dielectric spectroscopy of 0.4PMN-0.3PSN-0.3PZN ceramics

2007

In this paper, results of the broadband dielectric spectroscopy of 0.4PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-0.3PbZn1/3Nb2/3O3-0.3PbSc1/2Nb1/2O3(0.4PMN-0.3PZN-0.3PSN) are presented. Dielectric spectra of these solutions were investigated in a broad frequency range from 20 Hz to 100 GHz. Very strong and broad dielectric relaxation was analyzed in terms of distribution of relaxations times, using Tichonov regularization method. It revealed slowing down of the longest relaxation and the mean relaxation times in the agreement with the Vogel-Fulcher law and the Arrhenius law, respectively.

Capacity Estimation of ADSL links

2008

Most tools designed to estimate the capacity of an Internet path require access on both end hosts of the path, which makes them difficult to deploy and use. In this paper we present a single-sided technique for measuring the capacity without the active cooperation of the destination host, focusing particularly on ADSL links. Compared to current methods used on broadband hosts, our approach generates two orders of magnitude less traffic and is much less intrusive. Our tool, DSLprobe, exploits the typical characteristics of ADSL, namely its bandwidth asymmetry and the relatively low absolute bandwidth, in order to measure both downlink and uplink capacities and to mitigate the impact of cross…

A New Method for Determining the Ångström Turbidity Coefficient from Broadband Filter Measurements

2000

Abstract In this work, a new method for determining Angstrom turbidity coefficients is presented. This method is based on broadband filter irradiance measurements. By combining measurements obtained with different filters it is possible to obtain a single value of the turbidity coefficient representative of the whole measurement range of the pyrheliometer. The results provided by this new method are compared with the original Angstrom method and turbidity coefficient values derived by spectroradiometric measurements. The results reproduce the actual values, as measured by a spectroradiometer, better than the previous best correlation did, thus demonstrating the advantage of analyzing the op…

Wavelength dependence of the effective cloud optical depth

2015

This study examines the wavelength dependence of cloud optical depth. To accomplish this task two different wavelength bands of the solar spectrum were considered in the cloud optical depth retrieval which was conducted in Valencia, Spain. The first retrieval used global irradiance measurements in the UVER range taken from a YES-UVB-1 radiometer in combination with multiple scattering model estimates; while the second retrieval was obtained in the Broadband range, with measurements of global solar surface irradiance from a CM6 pyranometer and a multiple scattering model. Whilst the dependence of the cloud optical depth (τ) on the wavelength is small, the best result was displayed by the SBD…

A Two-Dimensional Autoregressive Model for MIMO Wideband Mobile Radio Channels

2008

In this work, we propose the multichannel two- dimensional (2D) autoregressive (AR) model for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wideband mobile wireless channels. The parameters of the proposed model can be estimated from the real- world measurement data. For this purpose, we suggest using a straightforward extension of the prediction error minimization (PEM) algorithm. We also address the problem of possible instability of the multichannel 2D AR model. A model stabilization procedure based on numerical optimization techniques is proposed. The performance of the multichannel 2D AR model has been evaluated based on the synthetic data generated using two different channel simulators.

Optimal Relays Deployment for 802.16j Networks

2012

In this paper, we consider optimal relay station deployment for the IEEE 802.16j networks. IEEE 802.16j is an emerging wireless broadband networking standard that integrates infrastructure base stations with multihop relay technology. The proposed relay deployment mechanism allows us to maximize network capacity for every user or to maximize total network capacity, and, therefore, to reach greater network capacity values while employing smaller number of relay stations. With the proposed approach, the necessary number of relays for a region can be found.

Enable concurrent transmissions with beamforming for broadband wireless access in CSMA/CA-based WLANs

2014

In CSMA/CA based wireless local networks, two stations are not allowed to transmit at the same time due to interference generated to each other, resulting in degraded throughput. Concurrent transmission, which enables simultaneous transmission of two or more stations under certain conditions, is able to overcome this problem, leading to enhanced channel utilization efficiency. Different from earlier work on this topic which focuses on omni-direction concurrent transmission, we introduce in this paper beamforming into a co-channel concurrent transmission scheme and investigate the benefits of concurrency with beamforming. The circumstances for concurrent transmission and frame scheduling are…

The NHXM observatory

2011

Exploration of the X-ray sky has established X-ray astronomy as a fundamental astrophysical discipline. While our knowledge of the sky below 10 keV has increased dramatically (∼8 orders of magnitude) by use of grazing incidence optics, we still await a similar improvement above 10 keV, where to date only collimated instruments have been used. Also ripe for exploration is the field of X-ray polarimetry, an unused fundamental tool to understand the physics and morphology of X-ray sources. Here we present a novel mission, the New Hard X-ray Mission (NHXM) that brings together for the first time simultaneous high-sensitivity, hard-X-ray imaging, broadband spectroscopy and polarimetry. NHXM will…
