WOx phase growth on SiO2/Si by decomposition of tungsten hexacarbonyl:Influence of potassium on supported tungsten oxide phases

International audience; Synchrotron based photoemission spectroscopy was used to study the adsorption of tungsten hexacarbonyl on SiO2 surfaces modified by potassium. Results were compared with the ones obtained when no potassium was present. Experiments using W4f and Si2p intensities variations show that, at 140 K, the tungsten hexacarbonyl growth proceeds via a simultaneous multilayer mode for the two kinds of surfaces but with differences in compositions of growing layers. Dicrocoeliasis of animals and humans is caused by trematode species of the genus Dicrocoelium, mainly Dicrocoelium dendriticum in ruminants of the Holarctic region. D. dendriticum may be considered an old parasite, probably related to the appearance and diversification of Eurasian ovicaprines, occurred 14.7-14.5 million years ago. The oldest palaeoparasitological findings of Dicrocoelium in domestic animals and humans date from more than 5000 years BC in Europe. Eggs of D. dendriticum have been found in a burial of a Bronze Age cemetery (2600-2200 BC) close to Yasuj city, southwestern Iran. The laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technique is often used as atomic spectroscopic technique for elemental analysis of materials. However, it presents some drawbacks that make an accurate quantitative analysis difficult. Since the plasma properties, such as spatial inhomogeneity and plume stoichiometry strongly depend on the experimental conditions, the measurements are less reproducible. In order to evaluate the measurement fluctuations, we propose to use the more established micro X-Ray fluorescence (μ-XRF) technique for validating LIBS data. La grotte de l'Eremita au Monte Fenera (Vercelli, Italie) : nouvelles découvertes du Bronze moyen

Située au coeur du massif calcaire du Monte Fenera dans le Piémont italien, la grotte de l'Eremita, appelée également Tana dell'Armittu, fait l'objet d'une intervention archéologique menée par l'Université de Genève (direction M. Besse). Suite à des sondages effectués en 2012 lors desquels furent mises au jour, entre autres, des perles spiralées et une épingle en bronze, une fouille programmée a été organisée dès 2013. Notre contribution présente les données de terrains de l'année 2013. La fouille archéologique s'est déroulée avec les étudiants en archéologie, l'aspect didactique - auquel nous sommes fermement attachés - étant un des objectifs de cette fouille.

Complementarity of the XRF and LIBS analyses in the conservation science: the case studies of the bronze alloys

The present study confirms how the integrated use of non-destructive or micro-destructive spectroscopic techniques are capable to provide a clear response to the investigative needs in the conservation science. In particular, the X-ray fluorescence analysis in association with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy can be useful for collecting information about chemical composition and elemental stratigraphic distribution of the external layers. The complementarity of these techniques has been tested by analysing bronze samples, made in the laboratory according to binary, ternary and quaternary alloys, typical of Roman archaeometallurgical production and buried for one year. Abstract There is a long lasting debate on the nature of the neolithisation process in the northern European lowlands and in southern Scandinavia. Early evidence of domesticates and crop cultivation indicate a transition to farming in this area during the late 5th millennium cal BC. However, there is limited information how this process took place and to what extent the new economy was adopted during the subsequent centuries.
