Objective To investigate the psychometric and structural properties of the Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) among meditators, to develop a short form, and to examine associations of mindfulness with mental health and the mechanisms of mindfulness. Methods Two independent samples were used, a German (n = 891) and a Spanish (n = 393) meditator sample, practicing various meditation styles. This paper presents Buddhism as a paideia where the personal education takes place through the so-called three jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, or the Master, the Way of Truth and the Spiritual Community. These are three refuges where the disciple carries out an interior search that, contrary to belief, does not happen in solitude but with the careful guidance of a Master and with the spiritual companions of the community. Finally, it’s affermed the great relevance of a millenary religion that today offers practices of interiority education to cultivate spiritual qualities such as wisdom, generosity, patience, love and compassion to build a new humanity.
Representing Tibetan Buddhism in books on spirituality : A discourse-historical approach

This article looks into how Tibetan Buddhism is framed in terms of East-West dichotomy in six popular books on Buddhism and spirituality. Discourse Historical Approach is employed to uncover the rhetorical representation of Tibetan Buddhism to the readers. A critical post-colonial perspective offers an insight into various power dynamics, arising from these representations, structured according to Yoshikawa's model of intercultural communication between East and West. The various power outcomes of rhetorical styles range from Ethnocentric to Dialogical, with their ethical consequences and problematics discussed.
Unwanted effects: Is there a negative side of meditation? A multicentre survey

Objectives Despite the long-term use and evidence-based efficacy of meditation and mindfulness-based interventions, there is still a lack of data about the possible unwanted effects (UEs) of these practices. The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of UEs among meditation practitioners, considering moderating factors such as the type, frequency, and lifetime duration of the meditation practices. Teacher-Student Relations in Two Tibetan Buddhist Groups in Helsinki

AbstractBased on sixteen interviews with members of two Tibetan Buddhist groups in Helsinki, Finland, this article investigates how the role of the guru, power imbalance and power abuse are perceived by the students. This qualitative study aims at understanding what shape the reverence to the Vajrayana teacher takes in the egalitarian environment of a European country, where Buddhism is a relatively new phenomenon. The interviews show that while teachers are not losing importance, ways of choosing and paying respect to them changes. They also reveal confusion in defining abuse, and emphasis on personal agency and teachers’ accountability for avoiding it.

Om Mani Padme Hum is a six syllable mantra in Tibetian Buddhism associated with the bodhisattva – Avalokitesvara. This mantra as known by the Buddhist generates positive energies within the body through mystical vibrations and frequencies when chanted repeatedly. The mantra has shown enhanced cognitive effects in organisms without auditory apparatus where the interaction is assumed to be taking place at a cellular and biochemical level (Pereira 2015a, b; Pereira 2016a,b).
