EVOLUTION OF BUILDING SISTEMS AND BUILDING PATOLOGIES: VARIABLES OF INTERACTION

2006

This paper describes the "variables of interaction" between architecture-materials-techiques and the problems inherent in building recovery. Programming the building recovery for the development of guidelines for the 21ts century construction must take into consideration the complex correlation between technologies and related building pathologies.

STRUCTURE, ENVELOPE AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION The reinforced concrete in the construction of very tall buildings

2014

Until the second half of the nineteenth century, ie until the Industrial Revolution, the building structures played static function and also protective function. In the course of time separating the combination goes. The introduction of iron leads to a progressive "innovation" of building structures. The first application of iron in construction dates back to the mid-nineteenth century. They were first made with cast-iron columns and beams in iron and later with particular types of steel. The architecture of the iron is a true regeneration of the way of building, the cities are filled with sophisticated solid structures and slim at the same time, it enhances the transparency of glass, it in…

Branding4Resilience: Explorative and Collaborative Approaches for Inner Territories

2022

This article analyzes inner and marginal territories in four Italian peripheral contexts by first discussing some of the results and future steps of the “B4R Branding4Resilience” research project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Research from 2020 to 2023. The overall research is based on three phases: (1) the exploration phase to analyze socio-economic data and territorial dynamics; (2) the co-design phase involving local actors to develop ideas for a selected pilot case; (3) the co-visioning phase where a future transformative perspective for the whole area was shared with the institutions. The article focuses on phase 1 and presents some first results achieved by the application of a m…

The aim of the study was to summarise all published systematic reviews (SRs) with or without meta-analysis (MAs), which assess the effect on cardiovascular disease (CVD) of the architecture, design and physical environment in residential buildings. Materials and method. This study presents the rationale and protocol of an overview of SRs. It was prepared according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P). Four bibliographical databases will be searched. Eligible SRs can include RC…

III a.C. - II d.C.)

2013

The effect of balconies on energy efficiency of multi-unit residential buildings: A state of art review

2019

Multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) has become common in urban areas in order to accommodate the demands of the increasing urban population and make use of limited urban land. These buildings are high consumers of energy and natural resources with significant carbon footprints. Efforts are hence needed to make new and existing MURBs more energy efficient and environmentally. Balconies in MURBs can help decrease operational energy in addition to providing a connection to the outdoor environment for the residents. If properly designed, MURBs balconies in cold climates can help in enhancing solar gains while in warm climates, they can be useful in providing a sub-space capable of cooling …
