Tritium retention measurements by accelerator mass spectrometry and full combustion of W-coated and uncoated CFC tiles from the JET divertor
2016
Abstract Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and the full combustion method (FCM) followed by liquid scintillation counting were applied to quantitatively determine the tritium retention in the tungsten-coated carbon fibre composites (CFC), in comparison to uncoated CFC tiles from the JET divertor. The tiles were adjacent and exposed to plasma operations between 2007 and 2009. The tritium depth profiles are showing that the tritium retention on the W-coated tile was reduced by a factor of 13.5 in comparison to the uncoated tile whereas the bulk tritium concentration is approximately the same for both tiles.
Minimally invasive secondary cytoreduction plus HIPEC for recurrent ovarian cancer: a case series.
2014
Objective To analyze the feasibility of laparoscopic/robotic secondary cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal intra-operative chemotherapy (SCS + HIPEC) in a retrospective series of isolated platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. Methods We retrospectively evaluated a consecutive series of ovarian cancer patients with isolated platinum sensitive relapse. Isolated relapse was defined as the presence of a single nodule, in a single anatomic site. In all cases the presence of isolated relapse was assessed at pre-operative FDG-PET/CT scan, and confirmed with staging laparoscopy performed immediately before SCS + HIPEC. Results 84 women with platinum sensitive relapse recei…
Prognostic factors in advanced ovarian cancer
1997
In this review, different factors with suspected effect on survival of patients with advanced ovarian cancer are analysed. The volume of residual disease after surgical debulking is one of the most important factors predicting outcome. However, the extent of cytoreduction may not be the only ‘responsible’ factor indicating a better prognosis; the underlying biology of those debulkable tumors may also play a role in defining the more favorable outcome. Seven reports have studied different prognostic factors by multivariate analysis: performance status, stage, age, grade, histology, tumor size, residual tumor, type of chemotherapy given, and ploidy status are the most common analysed paramete…
Mesenteric Lymph Node Involvement in Advanced Ovarian Cancer Patients Undergoing Rectosigmoid Resection: Prognostic Role and Clinical Considerations
2014
Background: The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the incidence of mesenteric lymph node (MLN) involvement, and its prognostic role in advanced ovarian cancer (OC). Methods: OC patients undergoing rectosigmoid resection during primary debulking surgery or interval debulking surgery were recorded. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival were calculated from the date of diagnosis to the date of relapse/progression, death of disease, or the date of last follow-up. Results: MLNs were detected in 102/148 cases (68.9 %); the rate of MLN involvement was 47.0 %. The percentage of metastatic MLNs was higher in cases with >5 MLNs removed compared with cases with ≤5 MLNs …
Favorable Outcome in Patients with Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia (AML) with NPM1 Mutation Who Present an Inadequate Clearance or Relapse of Minimal/Mea…
2018
Abstract Introduction Patients diagnosed with AML with NPM1mutation (NPM1mut AML) included in the European LeukemiaNet favorable genetic risk category (ELNfav, i.e., without FLT3-ITD or with a low allelic burden FLT3-ITD comutation [FLT3-ITD/FLT3wt <0.5; FLT3-ITDLOW]) do not benefit from an allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) in first complete remission (CR1). However, a significant proportion of these patients fail to frontline chemotherapy and require salvage therapy. Persistence or detection of MRD after post-CR treatment is associated with a high relapse risk and worse prognosis. With this background, the cooperative group CETLAM proposed an early therapeutic intervention …

Characterization of a Human Carcinosarcoma Cell Line of the Ovary Established after in Vivo Change of Histologic Differentiation
2001
Abstract Objectives. Cell lines are valuable in vitro models for clinical and basic research. Most ovarian cancer cell lines described are serous cystadenocarcinomas or poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas. The establishment of ovarian cancer cell lines with rare histologic differentiation is especially of interest. We describe the establishment of a carcinosarcoma cell line of the ovary after in vivo selection. Methods. The cell line OV-MZ-22 was established from a solid tumor mass in the upper abdomen. At the time of establishment, the patient underwent secondary debulking and was pretreated with six cycles of cis -platinum/epirubicin/cyclophosphamide. Features of the cell line studied i…
Can be GPR technique useful for strength characterization of concrete?
2010
The possibility of material characterization through the GPR measurements, taking into account the integration with the ultrasonic technique, has been studied and possible relationships between the permittivity of materials and their bulk density are discussed. We present here two different approaches. The first one describes an attempt to correlate the mechanical strength of concrete (as well the ultrasonic velocity) with the permittivity of the material. A series of samples of concrete, characterized by different material properties, were used for georadar and ultrasonic measures, seeking correlations among experimental data. The second approach illustrates the comparison between GPR and …
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in soils of the Moscow region: Concentrations and small-scale distribution along an urban–rural transect
2006
In soils of the Moscow region, we examined PCB concentrations in bulk samples and aggregate fractions. Topsoils under grassland and forest at five locations along a southeast-bound transect from Moscow and at a northeastern background location (grassland only) were analysed. We collected aggregates1 cm and fractionated them into interior and exterior portions and also analysed the remaining soil without the aggregates1 cm. The concentrations of the sum of 17 PCBs (sigma17PCBs) in 35 bulk soil samples ranged from 3.1 to 42 microg kg(-1). This was 48-61% of the sigma33PCBs determined in 23 selected samples. The congeners 138(+158), 101 and 52 were most abundant. All PCB concentrations and the…
True Nanoferroics with the Properties Absent in Corresponding Bulk Samples
2013
The Chapter covers the theoretical and experimental approaches to the investigations of the physical properties, which are inherent in ferroics of nanosize and absent in corresponding bulk materials. Namely, the strong surface influence along with other effects of geometrical confinement generates number of physical effects, which do not occur in bulk ferroics samples. One example of such phenomena is room-temperature ferromagnetism in nanoparticles and thin films of undoped CeO2, HfO2, SnO2, Al2O3 and other nonmagnetic (in bulk samples) oxides. Theo other striking example is appearance of so-called spontaneous flexoeffects (i.e. flexoelectric, flexomagnetic, flexoelastic) in ferroic nanosa…
