Ab initio Calculations of Bulk and (001) Surface F-centers in ABO3 Perovskites

2021

We analyzed systematic trends in BaTiO 3, SrTiO 3 , PbZrO 3 and SrZrO 3 bulk as well as very rarely performed (001) surface F-center ab initio calculations. The nearest neighbor atomic displacements around the bulk F-center in the ABO 3 perovskites are considerably smaller than the relevant neighbor atomic displacements around the (001) surface $F$ -centers. The $F$ -center electrons are more delocalized for the ABO 3 perovskite (001) surface $F$ -center than for the bulk $F$ -center. Our calculated formation energy differences between the BaTiO 3 , SrTiO 3 , PbZrO 3 and SrZrO 3 bulk and its (001) surface $F$ -centers triggers the $F$ -center segregation from the bulk crystal towards the AB…

Soil Erosion Induced by the Introduction of New Pasture Species in a Faxinal Farm of Southern Brazil

2018

The faxinal management system is an endangered agro-silvopastoral system which forms part of the local traditional management in the Paraná federal state (Brazil). Significant changes in land management since the 1970s caused farmers to look for alternatives to increase the productivity of their farms. The introduction of new pasture species is causing land degradation problems, of which soil erosion is the most important challenge. Therefore, in this study, we assessed the environmental consequences of introducing exotic pasture species, such as Brachiaria decumbens. To achieve this goal, ten erosion plots were installed with exotic and native pastures (Paspalum notatum Flügg&e…

Soil Physical Quality of Citrus Orchards Under Tillage, Herbicide, and Organic Managements

2018

Abstract Soil capacity to support life and to produce economic goods and services is strongly linked to the maintenance of good soil physical quality (SPQ). In this study, the SPQ of citrus orchards was assessed under three different soil managements, namely no-tillage using herbicides, tillage under chemical farming, and no-tillage under organic farming. Commonly used indicators, such as soil bulk density, organic carbon content, and structural stability index, were considered in conjunction with capacitive indicators estimated by the Beerkan estimation of soil transfer parameter (BEST) method. The measurements taken at the L'Alcoleja Experimental Station in Spain yielded optimal values fo…

The establishment of an introduced community of fluorescent pseudomonads in the soil and in the rhizosphere is affected by the soil type

1999

Indigenous populations of fluorescent pseudomonads were previously shown to vary in two different soils (Châteaurenard and Dijon) and in the rhizosphere of a plant species (Linum usitatissimum L.) cultivated in these two soils. These differences could be related to the soil type and to their crop history. In the present study, the influence of the soil type on the diversity of fluorescent pseudomonads in bulk and rhizospheric soils was evaluated. The soils of Châteaurenard and Dijon were sterilized before being inoculated with the same community of fluorescent pseudomonads. Bacterial isolates from bulk and rhizospheric soils were characterized on the basis of their repetitive extragenic pal…

Predictors of early scaffold thrombosis: results from the multicenter prospective German-Austrian ABSORB RegIstRy.

2018

BACKGROUND In randomized clinical trials, the risk of thrombotic events with the absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) was significantly higher than with metallic drug-eluting stents. We evaluated predictors of scaffold thrombosis in the large-scale, multicenter German-Austrian ABSORB RegIstRy. METHODS AND RESULTS 3178 patients with treatment of 4252 lesions using 5020 scaffolds were included. Follow-up rate at 6 months was 97.4%. Forty-five (1.42%) patients experienced definite/probable scaffold thrombosis during follow-up. Multiple regression analysis showed implantation of absorb BVS in bifurcation lesions [odds ratio (OR): 4.43; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.69-11.59; P=0.0024]…

Nitrous oxide fluxes from permafrost regions

2020

This dataset is a synthesis of published nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes from permafrost-affected soils in Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine permafrost regions. The data includes mean N2O flux rates measured under field (in situ) conditions and in intact plant-soil systems (mesocosms) under near-field conditions. The dataset further includes explanatory environmental parameters such as meteorological data, soil physical-chemical properties, as well as site and experimental information. Data has been synthesized from published studies (see 'Further details'), and in some cases the authors of published studies have been contacted for additional site-level information. The dataset includes studies publ…

Impact of wheeled and tracked tractors on soil physical properties in a mixed conifer stand

2016

Abstract: Damage to forest soil caused by vehicle traffic mainly consists of soil compaction, displacement, and rut formation. Severity of the damage depends on vehicle mass, weight of the carried loads, ground morphology, and soil properties, such as moisture. This paper investigates the impacts of two types of vehicles (tracked or wheeled tractor), traffic intensities (one or five skidding cycles) and soil moisture (24% or 13% by weight) on compaction of a loam textured soil in a mixed conifer stand of central Italy. Changes in porosity, bulk density, shear and penetration resistances were analyzed. The latter three parameters were significantly higher in the trafficked soil portions than…

Compressibility and phase stability of iron-rich ankerite

2021

ABSTRACT: The structure of the naturally occurring, iron-rich mineral Ca₁․₀₈(₆)Mg₀.₂₄(₂)Fe₀.₆₄(₄)Mn₀.₆₄(₄)(CO₃)₂ ankerite was studied in a joint experimental and computational study. Synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction measurements up to 20 GPa were complemented by density functional theory calculations. The rhombohedral ankerite structure is stable under compression up to 12 GPa. A third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state yields V₀ = 328.2(3) ų, bulk modulus B₀ = 89(4) GPa, and its first-pressure derivative B'₀ = 5.3(8)-values which are in good agreement with those obtained in our calculations for an ideal CaFe(CO₃)₂ ankerite composition. At 12 GPa, the iron-rich ankerite structure …

Color stability of Bulk-Fill composite restorations

2020

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:29:50Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-11-01 Background: The color stability of the composite resin is an important property that influences its clinical longevity, which remains an inherent challenge to the material. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of bulk-fill resins when exposed to dye. Material and Methods: Cavities were prepared in 80 bovine incisors, which were randomly assigned into 4 groups (n = 20) according with the resin composite used: P60 (Control Group - Filtek P60, 3M/ESPE), FP (Filtek Bulk-Fill Posterior, 3M/ESPE), SDR (SDR, Dentsply) and FF (Filtek Bulk Fill Flow, 3M/ESPE). Pressure-Driven Isostructural Phase Transition in InNbO4: In Situ Experimental and Theoretical Investigations

2017

[EN] The high-pressure behavior of technologically important visible-light photocatalytic semiconductor In.NbO4, adopting a monoclinic wolframite-type structure at ambient conditions, was investigated using synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopic measurements, and first-principles calculations. The experimental results indicate the occurrence of a pressure-induced isostructural phase transition in the studied compound beyond 10.8 GPa. The large volume collapse associated with the phase transition and the coexistence of two phases observed over a wide range of pressure shows the nature of transition to be first-order. There is an increase in the oxygen anion coordination num…
