Faking personality profiles on a standard personality inventory

Abstract A study is reported which investigates the fakeability of personality profiles as measured by a standard personality inventory, the Freiburger Personlichkeitsinventar (FPI). Unlike previous studies investigating laypersons' ability to fake a global good or bad impression, the present study examined individuals' ability to fake a specific personality profile. Four groups of subjects were instructed to fake their FPI scores so as to present themselves as high vs low scorers on the “social orientation” dimension or high vs low scorers on the “achievement orientation” dimension. Diffusion stabilizes cavity solitons in bidirectional lasers

We study the influence of field diffusion on the spatial localized structures (cavity solitons) recently predicted in bidirectional lasers. We find twofold positive role of the diffusion: 1) it increases the stability range of the individual (isolated) solitons; 2) it reduces the long-range interaction between the cavity solitons. Latter allows the independent manipulation (writing and erasing) of individual cavity solitons.

Maistra darbā tiek aplūkota Dinaburgas rezidences jezuītu darbība Inflantijas rekatolizācijas jomā. Darba mērķis ir noteikt jezuītu lomu rekatolizācijas procesā. Jautājums tiek apskatīts Ržečpospolitas konfesionālās politikas kontekstā. Tika noteikts, ka jezuīti veica darbību galvenokārt divos virzienos: garīgajā darbībā un izglītošanā. Dinaburgas jezuītu darbības rezutātā mainījas konfesionālā situācija Inflantijā – no lutertīcīgas tā partapa par katoļticīgo.

This paper assesses a revision programme proposed to unsuccessful students between the two examination sessions within the framework of the "Plan réussite en Licence" in first year at the University of Burgundy, both in terms of student participation and links with achievement. The low participation of students is not associated with particular student profiles. An analysis of the students' future shows that student participation in the revision programme led to a lower drop-out risk during the second examination session and greater success, but only as regards the examinations of the 2nd semester. Abstract Geographically isolated insular species face energetic restrictions and commonly evolve adaptations that distinguish them from their mainland ancestors. During the Pleistocene, several Mediterranean islands were inhabited by now extinct Hippopotamidae. They underwent diverse changes in locomotion, dentition and body size. Based on these differences, it is supposed that they occupied different ecological niches depending on their respective faunal complexes and available resources. Abstract Numerous predictive models for the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) exist, but a minority of them has implemented nutrition data so far, even though the significant effect of nutrition on the pathogenesis, prevention and management of T2DM has been established.
