Members of the genus Brucella are intracellular -Proteobacteria responsible for brucellosis, a chronic disease of humans and animals. Little is known about Brucella virulence mechanisms, but the abilities of these bacteria to invade and to survive within cells are decisive factors for causing disease. Transmission electron and fluorescence microscopy of infected nonprofessional phagocytic HeLa cells revealed minor membrane changes accompanied by discrete recruitment of F-actin at the site of Brucella abortus entry. This paper proposes a novel Distributed Data Mining (DDM) approach based on the Agents and Artifacts paradigm, as implemented in CArtAgO [9], where artifacts encapsulate data mining tools, inherited from Weka, that agents can use while engaged in collaborative, distributed learning processes. Target hypothesis are currently constrained to decision trees built with J48, but the approach is flexible enough to allow different kinds of learning models. The second component of human complement (C2) in pseudoglobulin prepared from normal plasma eluted as a single peak at high conductivity (30 mS) and pH 4.5 from the cationic exchangers S-Sepharose or Mono S in the Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography (FPLC) System. The C2 was stable at pH 4.5 and 0 degrees C if enzyme inhibitors were used and the pH was raised to 6.0 after elution from the columns. After rechromatography on Mono S in the FPLC System at the median isoelectric point of 5.5 or pH 6.0, the C2 eluted as two distinct hemolytic forms: the first peaked at 16 mS, the second at 30 mS. Here we report data describing some principles of the interaction between small GTP-binding proteins and large Clostridial cytotoxins (LCTs). Our investigation was based on the differential glucosylation of Rac1 versus RhoA by LCTs TcsL-1522, TcdB-1470 and TcdB-8864. Chimeric RhoA/Rac1 proteins and GTPases mutated at defined regions or single amino acids were used as substrates. Starting with chimeric Rac/Rho proteins we demonstrated that proteins containing the N-terminal 73 amino acids of Rac1 (but not those of RhoA) were efficiently glucosylated. Two collagen receptors, integrins alpha1beta1 and alpha2beta1, can regulate distinct functions in cells. Ligation of alpha1beta1, unlike alpha2beta1, has been shown to result in recruitment of Shc and activation of the Ras/ERK pathway. To identify the downstream signaling molecules activated by alpha2beta1 integrin, we have overexpressed wild-type alpha2, or chimeric alpha2 subunit with alpha1 integrin cytoplasmic domain in human osteosarcoma cells (Saos-2) lacking endogenous alpha2beta1. The chimeric alpha2/alpha1 chain formed a functional heterodimer with beta1. A die-hard aristocracy: competitive balance in Italian soccer, 1929-2009

We will present two measures of the competitive balance in professional Italian soccer, one based on the a club's historical rankings and one based on points scored per season. We will calculate and illustrate their characteristics for the Italian first division (the Serie A) between 1929 and 2009. Using the cumulated rankings of the 60 clubs which have taken part in the Serie A we show that Italian soccer is strongly characterized by a self-reinforcing mechanism of dominance that has created an aristocracy of at most ten strong clubs. Among mindfulness measures the three constructs acceptance, decentering, and non-attachment are psychometrically closely related, despite their apparent semantic differences. These three facets present robust psychometric features and can be considered core themes in most “third wave” clinical models.
