El consum recreatiu d'esteroides anabolitzants: una perspectiva sociològica
2013
The present study aims to provide a sociological overview of anabolic steroid use in Valencia (Spain), with particular attention to social factors that promote and sustain the recreational use of this drug. We consider not only the extensively documented health risks, but also the social determinants associated with its use. The lack of studies, both in the European and Valencian contexts, which describe the extension and consumption patterns of anabolic steroids among young people, has inspired us to portray the sociological characteristics of the recreational anabolic steroid user, taking the main conceptual tools of the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu as a central reference point. Following …
Lasso regresija ar empīrisko ticamības funkciju
2015
Nomenclature for Hydrogeological Instability Risks
2022
The nomenclature for hydrogeological instability risks includes four main risks, which are distinguished according to the risk causes : 1) hydrogeological risk, that is slowly caused by natural factors (e.g. collapse landslides in a calcareous cliff in uninhabited areas and erosion along a marly-calcareous slope) in environments where human activities are minimal, i.e. woods, forests and mountain pastures; 2) hydraulic-pedological farming risk, that implies the occurrence of landslides in every winter and is caused by incorrect crop selection, not suitable for the soil and climate parameters (e.g. on a hilly slope with a clay vertisol type with a landslide having different fronts, when the …
THE STRUCTURE OF SOIL CADASTRE. A MODEL OF SOIL INVENTORY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND TAXATION PURPOSES IN A GLOBALISED MARKET
2018
The author shows the development of a structure, derived from the processing and integration of Ground Cadastre, where all soil characteristics are described. The soil is considered as divided according to the updated concept of cadastral parcel (soil and topographic uniformity of ownership and municipality). The land use is also assessed with reference to sustainability, taxation and environmental risk prevention. The structure of Soil Cadastre can contribute to the bureaucratic simplification of agricultural policies and environmental emergencies, as well as product presentation and traceability. Through the updating of some characteristics by professionals, the cadastre can become eviden…
Teacher as creator: Orchestrating the learning environment to promote learner development
2022
Sociocultural theory (SCT) is a powerful basis for exploring and guiding L2 (second/foreign language) learner development. For the most part, however, the focus of classroom SCT-L2 has been on single activities, for example, teacher mediation of learners’ writing process or peer scaffolding. In this paper, we expand on these studies, building on Vygotsky’s (1997) metaphor of teacher as a creator of learner development. We propose how activities (1) where agency for guiding development lies with learners, (2) where the teacher takes the lead in guiding learner development, and (3) where opportunities for development emerge in dialogical interaction between the teacher and learners can be or…

Optimal Volume for Concert Halls Based on Ando’s Subjective Preference and Barron Revised Theories
2014
[EN] The Ando-Beranek s model, a linear version of Ando s subjective preference theory, obtained by the authors in a recent work, was combined with Barron revised theory. An optimal volume region for each reverberation time was obtained for classical music in symphony orchestra concert halls. The obtained relation was tested with good agreement with the top rated halls reported by Beranek and other halls with reported anomalies.
Characterization of a CZT focal plane small prototype for hard X-ray telescope
2005
The promise of good energy and spatial resolution coupled with high efficiency and room temperature operation has fuelled a large international effort to develop cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) for hard X-ray applications. We are involved on the development of a hard X-ray telescope based on multilayer optics and focal plane detector operative in the 10-80 keV energy range. This telescope requires a high efficiency focal plane providing both fine spatial resolution and spectroscopy with a compact and robust design. This paper reports preliminary results on the characterization both in spectroscopic and spatial response of two small pixellated CZT detectors (10times10times1 mm3 and 10times10tim…
Sharing and promoting disciplinary competences for university teaching in English: voices from the University of Jyväskylä language centre’s TACE pro…
2015
The internationalisation of universities often means that the language of learning and teaching needs to be changed – at present most commonly to English. Apart from English-speaking countries, then, most European universities offer their degree programmes in a language that is not the first language of either the students or the teachers. This challenging situation is also the reality in Finland and at the University of Jyväskylä. Many Finnish universities have set up supporting infrastructures to deal with the new challenges, particularly in their international master’s programmes. In this article we describe the TACE programme, which has been run by the Language Centre on an annual basis…
Analysis of the effects of co-exposure to antibiotics and cadmium on sea urchin embryos
2014
In order to understand the mechanisms of responses to changes in the physical and chemical environment, as well as the mechanisms of developmental pathways, we investigated by RT-qPCR assays and light microscopy observations the impact of antibiotics and cadmium in P. lividus sea urchin embryos. In particular we inspected development and biomarkers for free radical damage and apoptosis. During development embryos were exposed to an antibiotic mix (Ab mix, usually added to sea urchin cultures) or to sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim mix (TMP/SMX, usually added to aquacultures) and/or levels of 10-5, 10-4, 10-3 M CdCl2. Even though treatment with TMP/SMX apparently did not affect development, it …
