FIRST STAGES OF MICROSPORE REPROGRAMMING TO EMBRYOGENESIS THROUGH ISOLATED MICROSPORE CULTURE IN LOQUAT

The current experiments were undertaken to develop a method for regenerating doubled haploid (DH) plants of Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.), Rosaceae, subfamily Maloideae through isolated microspore culture of nine loquat cultivars. Protocols were developed for isolation and culture of loquat microspores. Isolated microspores in vitro cultured started dividing and developing multicellular, globular and irregular structures. After 4 weeks of culture, the responding microspores produced yellowish/white callus. The embryogenic response of microspores was highly dependent on the cultivar and on the medium composition.

How online advertising competes with user-generated content in TripAdvisor. A neuroscientific approach

Drawing on cognitive load theory, congruence research, and dual processing models, the purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of online advertising in social media. To this end, three separate studies were conducted. First, using eye-tracking and electroencephalography, we examine the differences, based on whether or not an ad is embedded, in subjects’ visual attention and engagement in a TripAdvisor webpage. Product placement in video games: The effect of brand familiarity and repetition on consumers´ memory

Product placement in video games is gaining momentum as a means to target audiences in an indirect and engaging way. This research uses a 2 (high repetition vs low repetition) x 2 (high brand familiarity vs low brand familiarity) factorial design to test the effects of repetition and brand familiarity on consumers’ memory for brands placed in video games. Results suggest that consumers recall better familiar than unfamiliar brands placed in the video game and repetition increases recall for familiar brands. Micro lensing induced lineshapes in a single mode cold-atom hollow-core fiber interface

We report on the observation of strong transmission line shape alterations in a cold-atom-hollow-core-fiber interface. We show that this can lead to a significant overestimation of the assigned resonant optical depth for high atom densities. By modeling light beam propagation in an inhomogeneous dispersive medium, we attribute the observations to micro lensing in the atomic ensemble in combination with the mode selection of the atom-fiber interface. The approach is confirmed by studies of Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency line shapes.

Novel plasmonic sensor design using plasmon-induced transparency

We introduce a novel sensor concept in the field of plasmonics, namely plasmon-induced transparency sensors. These sensors combine localized particle plasmon resonances with extremely small sensing volume with excellent sharp spectral resonances that show a good respose to refractive index changes of the surrounding environment. The principle is based on the plasmonic analog of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) between a radiative dipole and a nonradiative quadrupole antenna. This effect yields a spectrally narrow resonance within a broad localized particle plasmon resonance in the near-infrared spectral region [1, 2].
