Mobile money and the impact of mobile phone regulatory enforcement among the urban poor in Tanzania

Mobile money provides a tool for survival, particularly in urban conditions shaped by city regulations that make microvending difficult for the poor. An analysis of 165 interviews conducted in two low-income neighborhoods in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania over 8 years demonstrates how interlocked layers of technology and interaction make mobile money services semiformal. The field of molecular metal clusters protected by organothiolates is experiencing a very rapid growth. So far, however, a clear understanding of the fine interactions between the cluster core and the capping monolayer has remained elusive, despite the importance of the latter in interfacing the former to the surrounding medium. In this paper, an analytical model for the design of axially loaded strengthened RC columns with steel angles and battens is presented. Cases of directly loaded and not directly loaded steel angles are considered. The model considers the contribution in confinement pressures caused by transverse battens and steel angles and the contribution in terms of the load-carrying capacity of steel angles subjected to axial force and the bending moment. An experimental investigation on the compressive behavior of eight short, confined, RC columns externally strengthened with steel angles and steel battens with various pitches was carried out, and has been utilized as support for the analytical model. …
