Abstract Our paper is among the first to measure the potential effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry. Using panel structural vector auto-regression (PSVAR) (Pedroni, 2013) on data from 1995 to 2019 in 185 countries and system dynamic modeling (real-time data parameters connected to COVID-19), we estimate the impact of the pandemic crisis on the tourism industry worldwide. Past pandemic crises operated mostly through idiosyncratic shocks' channels, exposing domestic tourism sectors to large adverse shocks. Foreign Direct Investment Spillovers: Evidence from the British Retail Sector

This paper discusses the impact of foreign-ownership presence on the productivity performance of British-owned domestic retailers. In particular, we analyse the existence of productivity spillovers, in the form of knowledge transfer, by using establishment-level data from the Annual Respondents Database over the period 1997–2003. The results confirm the presence of such spillovers and highlight their positive and significant impact on the productivity of domestic firms, although these spillovers are mostly confined to the region in which foreign subsidiaries locate. RENT CREATION AND RENT SHARING: NEW MEASURES AND IMPACTS ON TOTAL FACTOR PRODUCTIVITY

International audience; This analysis proposes new measures of rent creation and rent sharing and assesses their impact on productivity on cross-country-industry panel data. We find first that: (1) anticompetitive product market regulations positively affect rent creation and (2) employment protection legislation boosts hourly wages, particularly for low-skill workers. However, we find no significant impact of this employment legislation on rent sharing, as the hourly wage increases are offset by a negative impact on hours worked. Coordinated Punishment and the Evolution of Cooperation

In this paper, we analyze a team trust game with coordinated Q1 punishment of the allocator by investors and where there is also a final stage of peer punishment. We study the effect of punishment on the reward and the investment decisions, when the effectiveness and cost of coordinated punishment depend on the number of investors adhering to this activity. The interaction takes place in an overlapping-generations model with heterogeneous preferences and incomplete information. A microeconometric analysis of the springboard subsidiary: The case of Spanish firms

Abstract This paper provides a microeconometric analysis of the distinctive characteristics of springboard subsidiaries that have a positive impact on the subsidiaries’ performance. Based on panel data estimations for subsidiaries of European multinational companies with a presence in Spain, the authors found that if the subsidiary is located in the springboard country, then the performance improvement (increase in profit margin) of the subsidiary is about 49 percentage points. The separation of the two regioisomeric derivatives of 1H-1,5-benzodia- zepine yielded from the reaction of 1,2-diamino-4-methylbenzene with 4-substituted acetophenones was performed by reversed phase high per- formance liquid chromatography, and the absorption spectra of the sepa- rated isomers have been determined for three isomer pairs which have been obtained starting from acetophenones with substituents of different electronegativity. The isomer ratio then could be estimated as well from the ratio of the peak areas as from the absorption spectra. They agree well with the known ratio determined from nmr intensities

Abstract Pressurized-flow electrochromatography (PEC) is a developing separation technique in which both a pressure gradient and an electric field are applied across a packed capillary. In this work we present new results illustrating the principles and the potential of PEC. Home-made capillary columns with silica-based reversed phase packings were operated under PEC conditions separating low molecular weight analytes. Compared to the purely pressure-driven system enhanced selectivity for the charged analytes was observed.
