CONFINI E PROGETTO PER LO SPAZIO PUBBLICO A TREVISO

2020

About landscape experts

2010

“Landscape design” is innovative. Given that a landscape is the result of a system of relations that brings together heterogeneous elements, and has, at the same time, a conceptual aspect, one can imagine a ‘landscape design’ as: A ‘light tool’ which can impact on the economy at different levels depending on political circumstances. A ‘way of thinking’ in terms of a network, that is to say, in accordance with our contemporary understanding of transformation.

The Urban Landscape in the Graphic Representation of the Cathedral of Palermo

2018

This study proposes some reflections on the relationship between the Cathedral of Palermo and the urban portion where it is placed, in relation to the indissoluble connection with the landscape that in the history offered a variety of perceptive suggestions marked by the passage and the coexistence of different cultural and social domination. To this end, the multiscale historical-urban planning analysis puts in place the role that territorial and urban morphology has had over time in relation to the Cathedral of Palermo. In this sense, the relationship between the architectural artefacts, such as the Royal Palace and the Town Hall, and the urban context is studied according to its access r…

I paesaggi urbani "generati" dalle politiche attuate ad Agrigento in seguito alla frana del 1966

2020

After more than fifty years after the landslide of 19 July 1966 which involved most of the historical centre of Agrigento, the paper aims to reflect on the results of the policies implemented by the national government as a result of this dramatic event and on the effect that such policies have had on urban landscape. In particular, the paper focuses on the degradation conditions that characterize both the historical neighbourhood of Rabato-Santa Croce, which was partially abandoned by the inhabitants following the landslide, and the new district of public housing "Villaseta", built outside of the Agrigento city, where the inhabitants - who had lost their homes - were transferred.

Suspended territories and windows of opportunity after the 2016 earthquake in Central Italy

2019

While globalization is promoting strong economic concentrations in a few urban centres, peripheral regions are negatively affected by decreasing population and increasing impoverishment, due to the lack of policies and the failure to develop and maintain rural economies. Although natural disasters accelerate these trends, the shock created by unexpected events may generate a window of opportunity, linked both to risk-reduction processes and to transition paths towards more desirable futures. This review aims to discuss tendencies in post-disaster management in the central Apennines after the 2016 earthquake, since this shrinking rural region is slowly concluding the emergency phase and star…

Vivere la città in evoluzione: il ruolo dei paesaggi urbani storici

Cultural and social aspects in post pandemic age are mainly connected with land use, mainly in high-density urban contexts. It is relevantly in historical centres where urban communities ask for spaces for cultural activities, creativity, aimed at social cohesion. The paper describes this condition in UNESCO Historical Urban Landscape Policy and demonstrates in what way it can be applied at Palermo Historical Centre.

HISTORIC URBAN LANDSCAPES: HOW TO IMPROVE NEOCOSMOPOLITANISM IN HISTORIC CENTRES

2021

The increased population density caused by the combination of predatory capitalism and the hyper-rational design of contemporary cities—starting with the rigid zoning of spaces and functions—began in the eighteenth century. Since the 1960s, the idea has spread that the Industrial Revolution was not, per se, a negative event, because the concentration of its effects caused the rise of the Anthropocene (Crutzen, Stoermer 2000). In this context, for the past fifty years, UNESCO and the Council of Europe have declared the social and cultural aspects of landscape and cultural identity preservation to be fundamental rights (Council of Europe 2000), and governments have approved laws and adopted o…

Renewed Sicilian Urban Landscapes. Transformation, Regeneration and Reuse of degraded areas

2020

In this study, through a multidisciplinary approach, some degraded Sicilian urban landscapes, today renewed thanks to urban regeneration interventions, will be ana-lyzed. Cities that look to the future and that react posi-tively to the current ecological and economic crisis. Urban centers that – through collective participation, the support of organizations, cultural associations and the sensitivity of local governments – are investing heavily in the theme of urban regeneration and re-cycling.
