Abstract The design of experiments (DOE) is a good option for rationally limiting the number of experiments required to achieve the enantioresolution (Rs) of a chiral compound in capillary electrophoresis. In some cases, the modeled Rs after DOE analysis can be unsatisfactory, maybe because the range of the explored factors (DOE domain) was not the adequate. Capillary electrophoresis for the determination of pesticide residues

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is becoming an advantageous tool for determining pesticide residues in environmental matrices because of its simplicity and high separation efficiency. However, inadequate limits of detection (LODs) and a lack of selective detectors limit the technique. The present review gives an overview of current developments in off-column and on-column approaches to trace enrichment in analysing real samples, and summarises the determination of pesticides residues by conventional CE as well as by the emerging techniques, such as CE-mass spectrometry (MS). The usefulness of these approaches in environmental applications is documented.

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) was coupled to ICPMS in order to combine the good performance of this separation technique with the high sensitivity of the ICPMS for the analysis of plutonium and neptunium oxidation states. The combination of a fused-silica capillary with a MicroMist AR 30-I-FM02 nebulizer and a Cinnabar small-volume cyclonic spray chamber yielded the best separation results. With this setup, it was possible to separate a model element mixture containing neptunium (NpO2(+)), uranium (UO2(2+)), lanthanum (La3+), and thorium (Th4+) in 1 M acetic acid. A method based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and capillary electrophoresis/mass spectrometry (CE/ MS) is described for determining simultaneously five acidic pesticides (o-phenylphenol, ioxynil, haloxyfop, acifluorfen, picloram) in fruits. The CE device is coupled to an electrospray interface by a commercial sheath-flow adapter. Emphasis is placed on fulfillment of the speed and sensitivity requirements. The best separation is achieved using 32 mM ammonium formate/acid formic buffer at pH 3.1, with a working voltage of 25 kV. A procedure for the extraction and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) separation of proteins from carob, guar and tara gums in a background electrolyte (BGE) of pH 9 containing 0.1% polyvinyl alcohol is described. The CZE protein profiles exhibit characteristic peaks for each one of the Leguminosae gums, which can be used to construct models capable of identifying samples of carob, guar and tara gums, and predicting the guar content in binary carob-guar mixtures of different geographical origin and harvested in different years. A capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) procedure for the determination of l-ascorbic acid (AA) and total ascorbic acid (TAA, as the sum of AA and dehydroascorbic acid) in vascular plants, lichens, bryophytes, and liverworts is described. The samples were frozen in liquid nitrogen and extracted with 2% metaphosphoric acid. To determine AA, an aliquot was directly injected in a fused-silica capillary. Este trabalho teve por objetivo desenvolver um método analítico direto e rápido para a determinação de ácido oleico em óleo de soja por eletroforese capilar com detecção condutométrica sem contato. O eletrólito de corrida empregado foi uma mistura metanol/1-propanol (1:6 v/v) contendo 4 × 10-2 mol L-1 de KOH e 10% (v/v) em etileno glicol. As amostras foram preparadas pela solubilização de 50 g L-1 de óleo de soja e 1,33 × 10-3 de ácido salicílico (padrão interno) no eletrólito de corrida.
