Investigation of the effect of intensive milling in a planetary ball mill on the thermal decomposition of basic nickel carbonate

The kinetics of thermal decomposition of basic nickel carbonate NiCO3Ni?(OH)2?nH2O and the effect of intensive milling in a planetary ball mill on its parameters, have been investigated. The values of the reaction heat and of the activation energy of thermal decomposition have been determined. Investigations of the thermal decomposition of the products of ball milling of investigated compound revealed a distinct effect of milling on the reaction temperature and heat consumed during the thermal decomposition of investigated compound.

Nitric oxide: Relation to integrity, injury, and healing of the gastric mucosa

Nitric oxide (NO) plays a multifaceted role in mucosal integrity. The numerous functions of NO and the double-edged role played by NO in most of them provide a great complexity to the NO action. The three enzymatic sources of NO, neuronal NO-synthase (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS), and inducible NOS (iNOS), have been characterised in the gastrointestinal tract. The protective properties of the NO derived from constitutive NO-synthases (eNOS and nNOS) have already been well established. Less clear is the role assigned to iNOS. The kinetics of thermal decomposition of cadmium carbonate CdCO3 and basic zinc carbonate ZnCO3?nZn(OH)2 and the effect of intensive milling in a planetary ball mill on its parameters, have been investigated. The values of the reaction heat and of the activation energies of thermal decomposition have been determined for both the compounds. Investigations of the thermal decomposition of the products of ball milling of investigated compounds revealed a slight effect of milling conditions on the reaction temperature and heat consumed during the thermal decomposition of ZnCO3?nZn(OH)2. No effect of ball milling on the thermal decomposition of CdCO3 has been found.

Laminated carbonate deposits in Roman aqueducts: Origin, processes and implications

Carbonate deposits in Roman aqueducts of Patara and Aspendos (southern Turkey) were studied to analyse the nature of their regular layering. Optical microscopy and electron-backscattered diffraction results show an alternation of dense, coarsely crystalline, translucent laminae composed of bundles and fans of elongate calcite crystals with their c-axes parallel to the long axis, and porous, fine-grained laminae with crystals at near-random orientation. A geochemical survey of the telese hypothermal spring, southern Italy: Sulfate anomalies induced by crustal deformation

This study deals with a chemical survey (major ions and Li+, F–, Br–, and ) on water samples collected from April 1998 to April 1999, from the Telese thermal spring, southern Italy, in order to investigate possible variations in the chemical composition of the spring. Water samples are of the calcium bicarbonate type, with small fluctuations in outlet temperature (20.05 ± 0.23°C), pH (6.23 ± 0.16), and TDS (2415 ± 35 mg/l). Atmospheric pollution in Venice, Italy, as indicated by isotopic analyses

Rainwater samples collected in Venice over a period of about 1 yr were studied along with stone samples collected from buildings and monuments. Isotopic measurements of O, S, and C were carried out on rainwater, rainwater dissolved sulfate, carbonate in stone, and sulfate present in altered limestone, with the purpose of proving that atmospheric pollution is mainly responsible for the deterioration of monuments and buildings. The results obtained lead to the conclusion that, in spite of the geographic position of the city, atmospheric sulfate in Venice is basically tied to the emission of anthropogenic SO2 and that only minor contribution can be expected from seawater spray and aerosols. Abstract In Central Italy non-volcanic CO 2 is discharged by focused degassing (strong diffuse emission and vents) and by high-CO 2 groundwater. 3 He / 4 He data and the carbon isotopic composition of CO 2 are compatible with derivation from mantle degassing and/or metamorphic decarbonation. The gases produced at depth accumulate in permeable reservoirs composed of Mesozoic carbonates. Hydrolysis of DCNP (a Tabun mimic) catalyzed by mesoporous silica nanoparticles

[EN] The hydrolysis of diethylcyanophosphonate, DCNP (a Tabun simulant) in the presence of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) has been studied in acetonitrile:water (99.5:0.5 v/v) mixtures using 31P NMR as a suitable technique to follow the DCNP hydrolysis. MSN alone was not capable to induce DCNP hydrolysis, yet MSN in combination with the presence of the bases potassium carbonate, triethylamine or DABCO enhanced DCNP degradation. When MSN was used combined with K2CO3, a hydrolysis of ca. 95% of the initial DCNP after 60 min was observed. Magnetic Properties of Ni II Cr III Layered Double Hydroxide Materials

This paper describes the isolation of four layered double hydroxide (LDH) compounds having the general formula[NiII3–xCrIIIx(OH)6](CO3)x/2·yH2O [x = 0.57 (1), 0.69 (2), 0.81 (3) and 0.93 (4)] by using homogeneous precipitation methods and varying the metal ratio in the synthetic solutions. All the reported compounds have carbonate anions in the interlamellar space. This fact forces the interlayer distances to remain unchanged in all the cases, thus providing an ideal system in which the changes observed in magnetic properties can be correlated with metal composition along the hydroxide layers.(© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
