Correlation between mutans Streptococci counts of parents and their children residing in Chandigarh, India

2013

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of Mutans Streptococci (MS) in children and to evaluate the relationship between the salivary levels of MS in children and their parents. Material and Methods: 100 children aged 3-6 years along with their parents (100 mothers and fathers each) were included in the study. The children were segregated depending upon their age and level of caries experience. The children were examined clinically on an ordinary chair in natural daylight using the Møller’s index criteria. Clinical outcomes of veneered zirconia anterior partial fixed dental prostheses: A 12-year prospective clinical trial

2019

Abstract Statement of problem Anterior veneered zirconia partial fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) have substituted for metal-ceramic to improve esthetics and biocompatibility. However, the material is susceptible to aging or hydrothermal degradation and to chipping of the feldspathic veneer. Whether these susceptibilities limit the clinical performance of anterior veneered zirconia FPDs is unclear. Purpose The purpose of this prospective clinical study was to analyze the mechanical and biologic behavior of zirconia partial FDPs in the anterior region over a 12-year follow-up period. Material and methods Twenty-seven 3- to 6-unit FDPs fabricated from zirconia veneered with feldspathic porcelai…

Bifunctional dentifrice: Amorphous polyphosphate a regeneratively active sealant with potent anti- Streptococcus mutans activity

2017

Abstract Objective In this study we demonstrate that inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) exhibits a dual protective effect on teeth: it elicits a strong antibacterial effect against the cariogenic bacterium Streptococcus mutans and, in form of amorphous calcium polyP microparticles (size of 100–400 nm), it efficiently reseals cracks/fissures in the tooth enamel and dentin. Methods Three different formulations of amorphous polyP microparticles (Ca-polyP, Zn-polyP and Sr-polyP) were prepared. Results Among the different polyP microparticles tested, the Ca-polyP microparticles, as a component of a newly developed formulation of a dentifrice, turned out to be most effective in inhibiting growth of …

Background The aim of the present study was to assess the relationship between prenatal maternal cigarette smoking (PMCS) and early childhood caries (ECC) through a systematic review of currently available scientific evidence. Material and methods To address the focused question: "Is there an association between PMCS and ECC?" an electronic literature search without time or language restrictions was conducted till May 2017 in indexed databases using various key words including dental caries, pregnancy, smoking, tobacco products and child. Letters to the editor, commentaries, reviews, case reports and case series and studies in which, ECC was investigated without clinical dental examination,…
