<title>Additional usage possibilities for the computerized Hess screen</title>

2003

The purpose of the study was to work out a method how to use the computerized Hess screen in proximal vergence measurements. Proximal vergence or vergence due to knowledge of nearness is one of four independent components making up the total vergence response. Proximal vergence is expressed as a ratio - proximal convergence/test distance (PC/T). The computerized Hess screen is usually used to detect and to measure an ocular misalignment in patients with paralytic strabismus in different directions of gaze. The computerized Hess screen can be used to assess PC/T ratio in different directions of gaze, providing the open-loop disparity vergence and accommodation systems and assuming that tonic…

Opto-mechanical artificial eye with accommodative ability.

2015

The purpose of this study was to describe the design and characterization of a new opto-mechanical artificial eye (OMAE) with accommodative ability. The OMAE design is based on a second-pass configuration where a small source of light is used at the artificial retina plane. A lens whose focal length can be changed electronically was used to add the accommodation capability. The changes in the OMAE's aberrations with the lens focal length, which effectively changes the accommodative state of the OMAE, were measured with a commercial aberrometer. Changes in power and aberrations with room temperature were also measured. The OMAE's higher-order aberrations (HOAs) were similar to the ones of th…

"Awake Surgery" of Slow-Growing Tumors and Cortical Excitability Measured by EEG Recordings. Preliminary Results

2012

International audience; To investigate interhemispheric imbalance following "awake surgeries" of slow-growing tumors we recorded EEG in a visuo-manual RT paradigm. Increase of cortical excitability within the ipsilesional hemisphere was signed by increased ERPs amplitude for two patients. The cortical excitability in the lesioned hemisphere may be increased to maintain performances and cerebral plasticity.

Binocular vision alterations after refractive and cataract surgery: a review.

2018

To review binocular and accommodative disorders documented after corneal or intraocular refractive surgery, in normal healthy prepresbyopic patients. A bibliographic revision was performed; it included works published before 1st July 2017 where accommodation and/or binocularity was assessed following any type of refractive surgical procedure. The search in Pubmed yielded 1273 papers, 95 of which fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Few publications reporting binocular vision and/or accommodative changes after refractive surgery in normal subjects were found. The reduction in fusional vergence is the most frequently reported alteration. Anisometropia is an important risk factor for postoperativ…

Intrusion within a transtensional tectonic domain: the Čistá granodiorite (Bohemian Massif)—structure and rheological modelling

2000

Abstract The Cista granodiorite stock, which intrudes the Tis granite laccolith, and their Neoproterozoic country rocks of the Tepla–Barrandian zone were studied by means of structural analysis and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility. The rocks were dated by the Pb–Pb evaporation on zircons, determining the age of the Cista granodiorite and Tis granite at 373 Ma and 504 Ma, respectively. The structures in the country rocks are characterised by an axial cleavage dipping to the northwest and overprinting the folded bedding. S1 cleavage bears NE–SW-trending mineral lineations, which plunge to the northeast or southwest at shallow angles. The cleavage is deformed by D2 kink-bands, which indic…

Sketching Sound with Voice and Gesture

2015

Voice and gestures are natural sketching tools that can be exploited to communicate sonic interactions. In product and interaction design, sounds should be included in the early stages of the design process. Scientists of human motion have shown that auditory stimuli are important in the performance of difficult tasks and can elicit anticipatory postural adjustments in athletes. These findings justify the attention given to sound in interaction design for gaming, especially in action and sports games that afford the development of levels of virtuosity. The sonic manifestations of objects can be designed by acting on their mechanical qualities and by augmenting the objects with synthetic and…

New species of the rugose coral genus Lithostrotion Fleming in the upper Viséan from the Azrou-Khenifra Basin (Morocco)

2020

The new species Lithostrotion termieri Rodríguez & Somerville is described. It shows very large corallites of the rugose genus Lithostrotion Fleming. It has been recorded up to now only in upper Viséan rocks from the type locality, the Akrab ridge, Morocco also called Tizi Ben Zizouit by Termier & Termier (1950), who identified it as Lonsdaleia floriformis, and south-east from Tabainout, also from the Azrou-Khenifra Basin.

Maldivian Tourist Resorts and their Environmental Impact

1993

In the past two decades, the Maldivians have built up a flourishing tourist industry. Tourist resorts have been established on hitherto uninhabited small islands and by 1990 the number of tourists has increased to nearly 200 000. The Maldivian tourist resorts represent a special type of tropical beach resorts catering only to the tourists’ needs for accommodation, board, leisure and recreation. They are distinctly separate from the islands inhabited by the Maldivians and intercultural communication does not take place. These resorts are in effect ‘tourist enclaves’. Holiday facilities in the resorts are clearly geared to the coastal environment - the beach, lagoon and reef. The impact of to…
