A brief review on primordial black holes as dark matter

Primordial black holes (PBHs) represent a natural candidate for one of the components of the dark matter (DM) in the Universe. In this review, we shall discuss the basics of their formation, abundance and signatures. Some of their characteristic signals are examined, such as the emission of particles due to Hawking evaporation and the accretion of the surrounding matter, effects which could leave an impact in the evolution of the Universe and the formation of structures. The most relevant probes capable of constraining their masses and population are discussed.

Incentive systems for risky investment decisions under unknown preferences

Abstract Our paper examines how to design incentive systems for managers making multi-period risky investment decisions. We show how compensation functions and performance measures must be designed to ensure that managers implement the expected value-maximizing set of projects. The Relative Benefit Cost Allocation (RBCA) Scheme 1 and its extensions revealed in literature on unknown time preferences generally fail to do so under unknown time and risk preferences. We illustrate that when coping with such unknown preferences in a risky setting, a specific state-dependent allocation rule is required. [1] Thin-skinned fold-and-thrust belts related to convergence tectonics develop by scraping off a rock sequence along a weaker basal decollement often formed by water-saturated shale layers or low-viscosity salt horizons. A two-dimensional finite element model with a viscoelastoplastic rheology is used to investigate the structural evolution of fold-and-thrust belts overlying different types of decollements. Foreland fold-and-thrust belts (FTBs) record long-lived tectono-sedimentary activity, from passive margin sedimentation, flexuring, and further evolution into wedge accretion ahead of an advancing orogen. Therefore, dating fault activity is fundamental for plate movement reconstruction, resource exploration, and earthquake hazard assessment. Here, we report U–Pb ages of syn-tectonic calcite mineralizations from four thrusts and three tear faults sampled at the regional scale across the Jura fold-and-thrust belt in the northwestern Alpine foreland (eastern France).
