Characters with multiple usages- phenotypic variability analysis at Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench species
2010
Merging aesthetics with utility, some medicinal plants can benefit both of a high production and decoration potential. This calls for diversification of improvement directions of the species. Through this article we suggest one of these species, Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench. This is considered to be important at this time, acquisition of new biological forms - varieties in this species, which show multiple attributes utility based on key biological characteristics, agronomic, physiological, biochemical and agrochemical (medicinal, decorative, culinary etc.). To achieve this goal, studies were undertaken, given in this article, which is the starting point for selecting characters represent…
Unveiling the Relationship Between Sea Surface Hydrographic Patterns and Tuna Larval Distribution in the Central Mediterranean Sea
2021
Thunnus thynnus (Atlantic bluefin tuna, ABT) and other tuna species reproduce in the Mediterranean Sea during the summer period. Despite the Central Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Sicily in particular, being a key spawning site for many tuna species, little is known on the effects of oceanographic variability on their larval distribution in this area. The abundance and presence-absence of larval specimens for three tuna species (ABT, bullet tuna and albacore) were modeled in order to examine their relationships with environmental factors, by analysing historical in situ information collected during seven annual surveys (2010–2016). The results revealed that most tuna larvae for the three …
Bacteria-specific cytotoxic CD8+ T cells: a missing link in the pathogenesis of the HLA-B27-associated spondylarthropathies.
1994
The term seronegative spondylarthropathies is used for an entity of rheumatic syndromes of peripheral joints and the spine (ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, Reiter's syndrome, arthritis in psoriasis and in inflammatory bowel disease) which are strongly associated with the MHC class I molecule HLA-B27. However, the mechanisms whereby HLA-B27 confers disease susceptibility have so far remained unknown. There is strong evidence that gut inflammation and infection with gram-negative bacteria play a role in the induction of B27-associated disease. HLA-B27, like other MHC class I molecules, physiologically binds antigenic peptides in its binding groove and presents them to CD8+ T lymph…
Enterobacterial Antigens with Tropism for Joint Structures and HLA-B27=Restricted Cytotoxic T-Cells in Reactive Arthritis
1995
In reactive arthritis (ReA), sterile synovitis is an immunological sequela following gastrointestinal or urogenital infection with facultatively intracellular bacteria (Yersinia, Salmonella, Shigella, Chlamydia). It is widely accepted now that the development of arthritis is closely related to the persistance of bacteria or bacterial antigens in extraarticular mucosal or lymphoid tissues (i.e. gut mucosa, gut associated lymphoid tissue, genitourinary mucosa); however, it is still unclear which host mechanisms are responsible for the poorer elimination of arthritis-causing microorganisms in those ReA patients. Bacterial components are also camed to the joints where they can be demonstrated i…
Zur Bewertung der Blattdornen vonHalimodendron halodendron (Fabaceae)
1979
Halimodendron halodendron is a spiny shrub of north-western Asia. The spines are formed by the rachises of the paripinnate leaves. After abscission of pinnae the rigid rachises remain for several years. In culture these rachis spines do not develop fully.
A new species of Rhopalosiphum (Hemiptera, Aphididae) on Chusquea tomentosa (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) from Costa Rica
2012
copyright 2012, Los autores y Zookeys. Datos incluidos por Lisela Moreira Carmona, responsable de depósitos del área de Patógenos y Plagas de Plantas (CIBCM-UCR). The new species Rhopalosiphum chusqueae Pérez Hidalgo & Villalobos Muller, is described from apterous viviparous females caught on Chusquea tomentosa in Cerro de la Muerte (Costa Rica). The identity of the species is supported both by the morphological features and by a molecular phylogenetic analysis based on a fragment of the mitochondrial DNA containing the 5’ region of the cytochrome c oxidase 1 (COI) and on the nuclear gene coding for the Elongation factor-1 alpha (EF1α). The taxonomic position of the new species is discussed…
Vasseuromys rambliensis sp. nov. (Gliridae, Mammalia) from the Ramblian (Lower Miocene) of the Tudela Formation (Ebro basin, Spain)
2012
In this paper, a new species of Vasseuromys, V. rambliensis sp. nov., from the locality Pico del Fraile 1 (PF1, Ebro basin, North-eastern Spain) is described. The association of Ligerimys, Peridyromys murinus and Simplomys simplicidens, and the absence of Eucricetodon and Democricetodon, allows dating of the PF1 locality as Late Ramblian (Early Miocene, MN3, local zone A). Main diagnostic features of V. rambliensis sp. nov. are the presence of four extra ridges in the lower molars, a very reduced anterotropid and a metaloph connected to the posteroloph and not to the protocone. The size and morphology of V. rambliensis sp. nov. are very close to V. bacchius from the upper part of unit MN2, …
Diversity, ecology and biogeography of Antarctic benthic hydrozoans: the Weddell Sea and the Scotia Arc as study cases
2017
Katrā parauglaukumā iegūti paraugi no visu trīs Latvijas izcelsmes apgabalu kokiem. Salīdzināta klimatisko faktoru ietekme gan starp parauglaukumiem, gan arī visiem i…
CHERAX DESTRUCTOR (CLARK, 1836) AND CHERAX QUADRICARINATUS (VON MARTENS, 1868): SAFETY AND NUTRITIONAL QUALITY- Premio "YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD"
2022
Two species of freshwater Parastacidae (Cherax quadricarinatus and Cherax destructor) are used for breeding in several country and to date also in Italy in one aquaculture plant located near Catania (Sicily). Although they are Australian, they seem to have some of the peculiar properties that make it important, strategic and highly appreciated species for aquaculture facilities in Italy. In fact, they mature early, have multiple reproductive cycles in a year, females can lay over a thousand eggs in a single brood and seem to tolerate wide ranges of temperature (Haubrock et al., 2021). Several authors have studied the Cherax genus from different points of view: diseases, moulting phases and …
