Combining Hexanoic Acid Plant Priming with Bacillus thuringiensis Insecticidal Activity against Colorado Potato Beetle

2013

Interaction between insect herbivores and host plants can be modulated by endogenous and exogenous compounds present in the source of food and might be successfully exploited in Colorado potato beetle (CPB) pest management. Feeding tests with CPB larvae reared on three solanaceous plants (potato, eggplant and tomato) resulted in variable larval growth rates and differential susceptibility to Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa toxin as a function of the host plant. An inverse correlation with toxicity was observed in Cry3Aa proteolytic patterns generated by CPB midgut brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMV) from Solanaceae-fed larvae, being the toxin most extensively proteolyzed on potato, followed…

Design characteristics, primary stability and risk of fracture of orthodontic mini-implants: Pilot scan electron microscope and mechanical studies

2013

Objectives: Orthodontic mini-implants (OMIs) are increasingly used in orthodontics but can fail for various reasons. This study investigates the effects of OMI design characteristics on the mechanical properties in artificial bone. Material and Methods: Twelve self-drilling OMIs (2 small, 6 medium, 4 large) from 8 manufacturers were tested for their primary stability in simulated medium-high cancellous bone and the risk to fracture in high-density methacrylate blocks. For the assessments of the maximum insertion torque (IT) and torsional fracture (TF) 5 of each OMI were used and for the pull-out strength (POS) 10. The OMIs were inserted with a torque screwdriver (12 sec/360°) until the bott…

Reconstruction of full thickness scalp defects after tumour excision in elderly patients: our experience with Integra dermal regeneration template.

2010

Summary Background Scalp reconstruction after wide tumor excision is particularly challenging. Free tissue transfers, local flaps, or skin grafts can be used but present some disadvantages especially with old patients with local advanced cancers, systemic diseases and in patients with a prior history of recurring scalp skin cancers in which the risk of burying a recurring tumor with a flap is likely. The Authors expose their early experience with Integra ® dermal regeneration template for scalp reconstruction after scalp tumor excision. Methods Eight patients with primary or secondary scalp tumor underwent a first surgical procedure under local anaesthesia for tumor removal and Integra ® po…

Impact of covid-19 in gynecologic oncology: A nationwide italian survey of the sigo and mito groups

2020

Objective Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused rapid and drastic changes in cancer management. The Italian Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SIGO), and the Multicenter Italian Trials in Ovarian cancer and gynecologic malignancies (MITO) promoted a national survey aiming to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on clinical activity of gynecologist oncologists and to assess the implementation of containment measures against COVID-19 diffusion. Methods The survey consisted of a self-administered, anonymous, online questionnaire. The survey was sent via email to all the members of the SIGO, and MITO groups on April 7, 2020, and was closed on April 20, 2020. Results Overall, 604 particip…

Economic sanctions in international arbitration

2018

Historically, economic sanctions, as options of foreign policy, are aimed on changing the behavior of the target state and its regime. In a very extreme situation, economic sanctions can be used in a comprehensive manner, which means prohibiting all kinds of financial transactions with the sanctioned state. The aforesaid policy necessarily constitutes a significant influence on the commercial relations between individuals within a sanctioned state and their international contractual relations. The imposed sanctions can cause obstacles for performing contractual obligations, s can lead to the disputes in international arbitration. Nowadays, the issue of sanctions in international arbitration…

The periodic reporting procedure of the United Nations System and the human right to water: opportunities and challenges

2020

The right to claim for damages if one of the party located on the vessels: Jurisdiction and applicable law

2017

The Masters thesis will resolve some important thesis for parties’ rights to claim for damages if other party breach the contract or agreement. This work is divided into four main sections: first part International contracts sales of goods and its relation to contracts for the carriage of goods by sea; the second part the biggest emphasis will be to draw on the contracts for the carriage of goods by sea; and the third part will be concentrated to applicable law in disputes arising from loss or damage of cargo or delay; and the fourth applicable jurisdiction in disputes arising from international contracts for the carriage of goods by sea.

<title>Noninvasive detection of intracerebral hemorrhage using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)</title>

1998

Intracerebral Hemorrhage (IH) is an important cause of secondary brain injury in neurosurgical patients. Early identification and treatment improve neurologic outcome. We have tested Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) as an alternative noninvasive diagnostic tool compared to CT-Scans to detect IH. We prospectively studied 212 patients with neurologic symptoms associated with intracranial pathology before performing a CT-scan. NIRS signals indicated pathologies in 181 cases (sensitivity 0.96; specificity 0.29). In a subgroup of subdural hematomas NIRS detected 45 of 46 hematomas (sensitivity 0.96; specificity 0.79). Identification of intracerebral hemorrhage using NIRS has the potential to al…
