Gran parte delle varietà di peperoncino, coltivate a scopo alimentare, è considerata interessante anche ai fini ornamentali. Ciò è attribuibile principalmente al frutto che rende questa pianta idonea alla coltivazione in vaso e per la realizzazione di aiuole e bordure. Il Consorzio di ricerca Co.Ri.S.S.I.A. di Palermo ha avviato una ricerca allo scopo di valorizzare il peperoncino come specie ornamentale da vaso. La scarsità di precipitazioni ha determinato una maggiore sanità della granella dalla ruggine gialla e bruna in generale in tutta Italia. Le produzioni sono risultate di 7,4 t/ha al Nord, 5,2 al Centro (entrambe maggiori del 2016, dove risultavano, rispettivamente, di 6,5 e 4,6 t/ha) e di 4,4 t/ha al Sud e Isole, leggermente inferiore al 2016 (4,6 t/ha)

Le precipitazioni praticamente assenti dal mese di febbraio non hanno compromesso le produzioni dell’orzo, che hanno raggiunto 7,1 t/ha al Nord, 6,8 al Centro e 6,4 t/ha al Sud e nelle Isole. La Rete delle prove ha riguardato la valutazione di 36 varietà di orzo da zootecnia in diverse località rappresentative della produzione nazionale.

Over recent years, the cultivation of hops (Humulus lupulus L.) has spread widely in the Mediterranean, also affecting the southern regions of Spain and Italy with a typical semi-arid climate.
