Comparative Chemical Characterisation of Soils at Cypripedium Calceolus Sites in Latvia

2017

Abstract The main aim of the study was to evaluate the soil chemical characteristics of Cypripedium calceolus sites in Latvia for understanding of the species ecology, and its conservation problems and possibilities. Soil for 27 C. calceolus sites in Latvia was analysed during 2007-2015. The concentration of plant available essential nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Mo, B), soil pH, electrical conductivity and concentration of organic matter were determined. Nutrient concentration of C. calceolus leaf samples from six sites were determined. The results demonstrated high heterogeneity in soil chemical composition with high variation for Ca, Mg, and Mn. The results suggest some …

Polyamide/carbonaceous particles nanocomposites fibers: Morphology and performances

2015

In this work, the influence of carbonaceous particles with different sizes and shapes on the morphology and mechanical performances of polyamide (PA)-based fibers was investigated. Graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) are compared with spherical and rod-like carbon fillers such as carbon black (CB) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The increments of the complex viscosity as well as elastic and loss moduli, in the melt state, assessed by rheological analysis, are reduced by modifying polyamide (PA) matrix with nanofillers in a following order: CNTs > GNP > CB. All the nanocomposites, however, show viscosity and moduli higher than those of neat PA. The CB loading causes a mere increase of the vi…

Cerium oxyhydroxide nanowire growth via electrogeneration of base in nonaqueous electrolytes

2008

The preparation of compact cerium oxyhydroxide nanowires into anodic alumina membranes from cerium chloride in ethanol solution via electrogeneration of base is reported. Scanning electron microscopy analyses indicate that dense, well-aligned, and highly ordered nanowires can be formed in a wide range of applied potentials and current densities in alcoholic solution. The employment of water brings to a hybrid nanotube/nanowire structure, suggesting a key role of the electrolyte nature in determining the morphology of the deposit. Electrochemical findings and X-ray diffraction analysis have shown that nanowires are constituted by a Ce(III)/Ce(IV) oxyhydroxide that can be completely oxidized …

The Evolution of Individuality at the Molecular and Protocellular Levels

1984

The most important bioelements (= organoelements) hydrogen, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen, are also the most abundant elements throughout the Universe besides helium, neon, and silicon (Fig, 1). In the Universe carbon is about four times as abundant as silicon. Certainly, the abundance of elements in various celestial bodies may vary greatly depending on the history of these celestial bodies.

Record of latest Barremian-Cenomanian environmental change in tectonically controlled depressions from the Jura-Burgundy threshold (Jura Mountains, e…

2019

The area of the western Jura Mountains constitutes the former Jura-Burgundy threshold between the Tethys Ocean and the epicontinental Paris Basin Sea. During the Barremian, the area was covered by a shallow-water Urgonian carbonate platform. Tectonic processes influenced the architecture of the Urgonian platform and were notably responsible for the formation of fault-related depressions on top of the Urgonian series, which were subsequently transformed into incised valleys and then to marine depocenters. Their sedimentary infills are mostly represented by the Perte-du-Rhône Formation and record stepwise environmental change on the innermost platform, which was strongly influenced by the nea…

Evolution de la circulation oécanique profonde durant le Crétacé : apport des isotopes du néodyme

2014

The Cretaceous is depicted as the warmest period of the last 300 Ma. The oceanic circulation and location of the source zones of deep-waters are essential to understand the role of oceans in the evolution of the climate during the Cretaceous, yet they remain unclear for this period. The neodymium (Nd) isotopes are used to track oceanic circulation and exchanges between water masses, in both past and modern oceans. The Nd isotope composition (εNd) in the ocean is related to the nature of the surrounding continental landmasses. The oceanic currents transport this isotopic signature, thus every oceanic basin acquires a singular εNd. Unequivocal interpretations of the Cretaceous seawater εNd va…

The CEO-Chair relationship from a relational leadership perspective

2016

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conceptualise how the chief executive officer (CEO) and chairperson of the board (Chair) construct their relationship through their leadership practices, and to analyse the meaning of these practices to the relationship. An empirical investigation from both partners’ viewpoint is conducted. Design/methodology/approach The data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 16 CEOs and 16 chairpersons from the same companies. Content analysis was used to analyse the data. Findings Four types of leadership practices in the CEO-Chair relationship were conceptualised: emergent practices on company- and person-related issues, and scheduled practices on co…

Isotopic ordering in eggshells reflects body temperatures and suggests differing thermophysiology in two Cretaceous dinosaurs

2015

International audience; Our understanding of the evolutionary transitions leading to the modern endothermic state of birds and mammals is incomplete, partly because tools available to study the thermo-physiology of extinct vertebrates are limited. Here we show that clumped isotope analysis of eggshells can be used to determine body temperatures of females during periods of ovulation. Late Cretaceous titanosaurid eggshells yield temperatures similar to large modern endo-therms. In contrast, oviraptorid eggshells yield temperatures lower than most modern endotherms but B6 °C higher than co-occurring abiogenic carbonates, implying that this taxon did not have thermoregulation comparable to mod…
